Wouldve guessed that Dorpers are called that because they were bred in the city, cause "dorp" is the Afrikaans word for city😄

@AWoutdoor3 күн бұрын
I went to a local auction they had commercial doorper sheep that were really stocky well built pregnant and they were young for $150-$175 and their body characteristics look just as nice or nicer than the sheep in the video

where are you getting 18 lambs from when you have 10 ewes, as a majority of sheep only give birth too twins

What are goats good for anyway? hehehe! it depends on the context! I am almost set up now to get a few goats, because i need "mowers" that mostly eat shrubs (many with thorns) So for clearing badly overgrown thorny thickets they are supposed to be great. but in the long run I will probably have sheep.

Sheep are a pain in the ass. Also the wool seems to be worthless. It's very hard to sell and to breed for. So the whole shearing thing is a big hassle. You have to find a specialist to do the job or learn to do it yourself. Both are difficult. Hair sheep are easier but those breeds seem to only work as meat and their meat is inferior to beef. Not sure which hair breeds might work for dairy. Getting into sheep dairy products seems like it might be worth it. But it will still be tough. Don't even get me started on rams. There is a reason why a siege engine was named after them. Sheep do not respect improper fences. Also you mention now losing any lambs. Congrats but some of us live around predators.

Sorry for bother but allow me to share my cannivore case: I have been eating a Carnivore diet for now mre than 11 months. However, formore than 12 weeks I have been eating only chicken thighs (roast chicken thing most of the time). I am Brazilain and Here in Brazil, red meat is very expensive with the increase in inflation. I have lost some body fat, but only in the initial 3 weeks. (I was for more than 3 months without losing any bodyfat when eating read meat) I eat 1.2 kg of chicken thighs for lunch and 7-9 whole eggs for dinner.(in a 6 hours window). I still have at least 4-6 kg of body fat to lose to reach my goal of being below 15% BF.( My weight is +-80kg) I am 35 years old, 180 cms tall and go the the gym 3 times a week.(I pefrome resisntece execise to help build some muscle and lose bodyfat) I am around 20%BF and would like to get under 15%BF. I have ahd problems to lose body fat with the Carnivore diet. (I have not lose amuch body fat in my experience as a Carnivore. Regarldess of eating read meat o chicken) Allow me to ask some questions about the Carnivore diet, in my sitution: 1- Should i start using the CICO model to lose the last 10-15lbs of Bodyfat i still have to lose? 2- Can someon follow a caninvore diet if he or she can only buy Chicken? 3- What would you recommend for those who only have the financial resources to buy chicken? Or for those in this situation, it may be better not to follow a carnivore diet. Maybe on a ketogenic diet? PS: I'm a healthy man with no health issues or chronic diseases and I started the carnivore diet for improvemtns in body composition(most ly lose body fat) without starving myself or counting calories (CICO MODEL) Thank you very much!

I have a few St Croix. I was recently given a Dorper cross ram lamb.(bottle) He's thick!. I got him at 3 days old. He's 20lbs at 23 days old. I don't know it that's good progression for a dorper cross.and don't know what the cross is😆.but he's bright ,alert,and gaining weight. He spends his days with my St Croix. And goes to the lamb shed alone at night. I don't play with him or baby him. I just feed and weigh him. I'm hoping he will add size to my future lambs. I love my St Croix. I will have lambs from my two st Croix ewes in February. Hopefully ewe lambs I can breed with this Dorper ram lamb. I'm in Texas. The little flock of 3 St Croix is on two acres until we get good perimeter fence. Thank you for this video.🌼🌿 Thank you for this video

i wanted to get two lambs in the spring and raise them until fall for meat. How is that possible? I don't want to over winter them. A woman near me has lambs in march but doesnt wean them til July or 'August. And theywant 250 per lamb. That isn't feasable cost wise
@zepguwlthistle792415 күн бұрын
great idea. My husband also put shelves in our laundry room with lights - 4 x8ft & 3x 6ft. I grow all our seedlings. He closed in a porch for the laundry room that is 6 x 20 with a ultra violet sauna on one end, grow shelves in the middle and washer and dryer and utility sink on the other end. It is an old house (built 1892) and he actually opened up the window into a door from the dining room.

When I was a senior in high school (1973) our band went on a small tour. We stayed in private guest housing. At one place I stayed, they served dinner with something that looked like fried chicken, but it wasn't. When I asked what it was, I was told that it was rabbit. Must admit, it was good. In retrospect, I realized that I stayed with a family that was not too well-to-do and gave what they had to feed me a good meal. I'm glad I didn't bad-mouth the meal...as I said, it was good (along with mashed potatoes, green beans, and an apple pie for desert) and I told them so. Hell, i wouldn't mind a meal like that today! Have not had rabbit since. Maybe I should remedy that. Thanks for the video!

Great video but those Roosting Bars are really not right. They need to be flat, not pointing up. They're feet are going to become painful and deformed.

I like mixing ground lamb with 73% ground beef. Locally, I find pastured lamb sometimes cheaper than grass fed beef and stock up at the sales prices. Chops are good too, but a bit pricier. Since meat, eggs and butter are my staples now, I have room in the budget to buy better meat.

Well the sad thing is that you don't seem to overlap. Conventional farms could be grazed after harvest and give benefits both places, and can have cover crop

I like how your outdoor heater is placed away from anything that could be heated by it except for painful roosting bars turned pointy-end up, when you could have gotten pretty far with a windbreak.

Just started keto about a week ago (not carnivore but close to it) I still eat non flavored seaweed for iodine. It’s my birthday this weekend and people expect me to eat all the fixings including cake .. but especially being so close to the start I’m not wanting to break. I’m definitely giving you a follow. I own 2 acres in NC as well and want to start raising sheep for meat.

I wouldn’t hire big machinery to deal with unwelcomed bushes and other things, mostly because I can’t afford them. So will just get some goats and let them loose, they will take care of most if not all of the ‘weeds’ Rabbits also love clover, we use to gather bags of it to feed our rabbits back when we still had them.

You talked about keeping the shelter simple where you're at down south, what about up north? We're up in the land of snow and subzero temps, would you recommend something sturdier/insulated?
