I'm WAY Old School? I'll take it! :) Lol. You and I have done this awhile I guess. Tell Jeremy not to worry, just say, "first come, first serve, you just have to hit it right" and let that person simmer. They could do what we do, turn over a million toads to find one good thing, learn when the store puts out new stuff and time your trips, etc. --or go elsewhere to shop, like estate sales, vendor malls, flea markets, etc. Why cry about what other people are doing when there are still so many places to find vintage?

The way I see it (and I've both worked in a charity shop and also been a reseller) is that the store should put the price it wants on the item, and whoever pays that price can do whatever they want with the item. To me it's a win-win for everyone. ❤

We all know prices have gone up everywhere and on everything! So a lot of the thrift stores have followed suit. No surprise! Years ago a lot of people wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store as if there was some kind of stigma attached to it, like you must be poor or something.. Now it's cool añd trendy to thrift shop! Reselling is a job, you're self employed and you are contributing to the community just like everyone else who works. So Jeremy, Yvon and the rest of the reselling gang: keep up the good work. There will always be critics, no matter what you do or where you go.

We have a local thrift store that specifically states that their sales are for poor and downtrodden people. People hooked on drugs and alcohol who are trying to get clean. I like to donate to them. I’m glad resellers are doing so well. How else can you survive in this economy?? To many people reselling is literally a way to pay their bills. It’s not even their first job most of the time. It’s their side hustle.🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m personally thankful to the reseller community for all your valuable tips and for your willingness to share all your knowledge with the rest of us looking to make some extra money for whatever reason. As for Goodwill and other thrift stores raising their prices, Yvonne is right-they miss a lot of items. You just have to be willing to look. I have come across Karens like these out there not just the thrift stores. 😂 Just try to tune them out. ❤

I’m a reseller. And I think that KZbin has brought to light the value of things and people have caught on but I don’t believe that resellers are the reason for prices going up. In case y’all haven’t noticed rent ain’t cheap. Salaries are going up to accommodate the cost of living. And these companies that supply jobs to people have to accommodate the rising cost-of-living. I think whoever said that is just pissed because the object that she wanted is beyond her or she’s too cheap to get it. I would not let peoples comments get to you. Opinions are like butt holes… everyone’s got one. Just stay strong and do your thing! Reselling has been going on for a very long time.

My favorite thrift store in my area primarily supplies one of the local food pantries. The prices on items in the thrift store have gone up. But the food prices have risen. So I am not angry about the prices. I am still able to find plenty of items for good prices. 😊

It’s a combination of things. One GW by me raised the prices a ton so their bonuses are better but they probably won’t be because they are so expensive.

I have seen Goodwill managers come out to the new carts and take items back with them. I asked what was up and they told me they have to put it on the floor before they can claim anything! Seems like maybe they resell ? In all fairness, the items do not seem to be priced lower.

Ive not had anyone publicly address me for causing prices to be too high, but likely because I avoid going into Goodwill. Midwest Goodwills are terrible and have been for several years, they pull anything vintage and list it on their ebay store, so all that is left to buy in their store is "new" items from Target, Dollar General, boutique, etc. Its not fun to go in, and a waste of time. Might as well just go to Target if I wanted that stuff! I only shop at antique stores and outdoor markets, support other small businesses by filming and buying from them, and they love the support and advertising ❤ Then there are the Google Lens people who price stuff based on the first ebay listing that pops up, not the recent ebay sold price! Dont get me started with sales Ive been to who print off ebay listings and tape them to items and expect to get that price 😂

Bottom line goodwill is not anything like it used to be to be ,! I’m sixty eight always shopped the goodwill my mom always shopped the goodwill! It has changed it’s become more corporate and GREED the CEO makes unbelievable amount of money !! And of course they have their own online sales they are making millions ! Savers (Value Village) is a for profit used goods company trying to look like a charity. They were sued and lost a few years back because they blatantly misrepresented themselves as a not-for-profit. They are a little bit more careful now but a lot of people still think that they are a charity.

I shop all Thrift Stores. I find items at all of them. Generally speaking, the “popular” in vogue items are priced higher then we can resell them for! We all are repurposing and reselling. The lower income population has ample opportunities to buy clothing, housewares, shoes, and more. Think back to the “ragman”. Picking up items others throw out and reselling them. Don’t bother with those who just want to get negative.

Exactly! The thrift stores I like are ones who sell the stuff so they can help poor people get what they REALLY need, which is NOT a bargain on a fairy lamp! Resellers support that just like every other thrift store shopper, I'm tired of hearing how we're "taking away" from the poor when I donate tons of stuff to the thrifts annually and shop them and give them money they can use to help people.

Unfortunately, you will not convince some people that Goodwills are trying to make as much profit as they can, no matter who buys the donations. By the way, Goodwill does need to learn if they grossly over price items, they will get damaged and never sell!

Goodwill would have found their way into E Bay with or without resellers the lady had no clue what she was talking about one of my pet peeves is speaking about something someone knows nothing about and just say something that is a programed response without giving it any real critical thinking. I do believe that the prices are up because of resellers, in part. I do find it irritating when the resellers complain about high prices. Also thrift store have historically benefited the under privileged. So when resellers come in and scoop up baskets full of all the good stuff it really is not okay. In my opinion.

I do agree that prices are up because of resellers in part, there's no doubt that more awareness and competition raises prices and cuts profits. On the other hand, "all the good stuff" is available to anyone who goes in there at any time, whether they're reselling or not, it's all up to when you go and a bit of luck. I frankly buy very little of my stuff at thrift stores and haven't since about year 3 of my career, there's so many other places to pick for resale and thrift stores can be a big waste of time unless you luck out

Honestly.. Thrift stores are for everyone to shop at. Not just poor people, not just resellers. Thrift stores don't discriminate, they'll take anyone's money! People can't be mad at resellers. It's not like they're getting special deals at Goodwill! They pay the same as everyone else. I love The Twins and anyone who has anything bad to say about them can kindly pound sand 🙂
