I came to hate the big book sales, especially the feeding frenzy atmosphere. I noticed a common physical trait of many of the book dealers were that they were often big and tall men. Nothing like seeing two or three of them at a table, arms flailing, blocking everyone else out with their sheer bulk. I prefer hitting the regular Friends of the Library. I consider myself lucky that my local library often gets good stuff. Years ago I found a high school yearbook signed by Tiger Wood there. Paid four bucks for it and sold it for $400.

I see why you get some flak, Mike. I found you on KZbin and the podcast almost a year before I started reselling. You were one of the few not selling me on getting rich. In fact you told me to quit. I got it going and have been sending in 2-3 boxes a week for four months now. Part time for now but busting my ass to freedom. Thanks for the help man!

This rings so true! I live in the Promised Land of book sales (aka New England) and watch herd mentality at work in every sale. If you know even a little bit you'll do fine, but many sellers rely on blind scanning and never take the time to learn the qualities of profitable books and media. They never learn to scan with their eyes before they scan with devices. It works out well for me.

@@TheUsedBookGuy We have one that goes so fast and never looks at their phone. They just scan and throw in their bags. We wonder how many fake accepts and how much is left behind. When we first started we were intimidated by them. Now we just shake our heads. They never go to the DVDs or CDs.

I sell everything on Amazon and eBay and I see the same thing with video game resellers. They’re always fighting like hungry beasts for games that’s worth $5 - $10 before fees. While I’m over here buying up huge lots random books and DVDs that go for $50 each after fees and zero competition lol.

Not giving up on books cause they work in my area but getting ungated in dvd's and cd's really made life much less stressful. Walk in and see a couple scanners shoulder to shoulder in the book section?...No problem, smile and stroll over to the media for some solo cherry picking. Even better? Beat the two scanners to the books and be done and in the media when they walk in. :) My only issue seems to be Amazon being real stingy in giving CD buybox eligibility. DVD's were quick but CD's it's been 7+ months.

I havent gone to any book sales in a couple years, its crazy walking in a 2pm and there would be a box of graphic novels, dvd sets etc. Everyone was busy scanning textbooks from the 80s. I got tired of being in crowded rooms where half the people smell really bad.

I stood in line at an estate sale once and some people tried the same thing with the one person holding the place for like a dozen people. I seen them walking up to the front of the line and said I don't know what in the **** you think you are doing but the line is back there. They said ohh they were holding our spot. I told them that is just too bad they can go to the back of the line. One guy got a little lippy but I told him I wasn't sure how many people it was going to take to whip my @$$ but we are getting ready to find out. They ended up going to the back of the line once a few other resellers started getting mouthy as well.

Question. What do we do when Amazon loses a whole box with used books? Some of these I paid $50 and up for knowing I will make $200 or more but they lose it and the burden is on you that you owned these and sometimes you get these books from Goodwill or Ebay and they just do not take that as proof so what do we do? Do I need to start Notarizing it right at UPS that these were in there???

Submit all receipts regardless of thrift store or not. Also submit UPS receipt that should have the weight of the box of books.

In my area(150 mile radius, densely populated) I’ve only seen 2 sellers at a library sale who appeared to know what they’re doing or maybe they just have different “business models” 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve met a lot of collectors at them & we are basically from different planets when it comes to why we are there.

It just really depends on whether you got good book sales nearby, and that's just plain luck, especially in my case cuz I can walk to mine (exactly one mile away), open 7 days per week with a $5 bag sale every Sunday. Good exercise hauling the books back home.

Been a full time bookseller on amazon and ebay for over 12 years. Books have paid for our current house and our lake cabin in the northwoods of Minnesota. I was 100%fba for the first 7 years. The last 5 years I now also do merchant fulfilled and have 2 ebay stores. Buy low sell high. I only cherry pick my sources. Your time is better spent finding sources than waiting in line at book sales and estate sales.
