I found a vintage lunchbox at , i heard a crumbling noise like paper when i touched it, i thought maybe the inside was deteriorating but I loved it so much that i bought it anyway. When i brought it home i found $260 inside a secret pocket

That's cool I never found secret money! But I did find a man's leather bracelet in a bedroom end table on the curb as trash. I opened the drawer, and it was black leather and what looked like gold notches all around it ever inch. Sure enough I went home it was stamped 750 which is 18k gold in Europe. It's broke on side, but an easy jewelry glue fix it came out of the clasp holding it. P.S. now it's in my bedroom end table broke, lol.

I'm not a reseller. I'm 69 so a lot of the things you collected came from my youth. I am very impressed with your education of the pieces. I recognized many items from my past and had to laugh at the value. FYI the see through frog was used as a soap or sponge holder by a sink. To be honest I aways thought those frog or owl porcelain pieces were ugly decorative items. But for years I kept the 'made in China' pieces my mother had received with flowers in them after giving birth. My mother would have said the same thing, so I understand the draw. In my youth I was a potter. I really love that you placed high value on the artists and their work. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I've been decluttering because I've downsized to a very small space, but those collectable items draw me in. I wish I had been a reseller of vintage items. Thank you for the fun ride.

Born and raised Oregonian. 77yrs. Also grew up in large family. I love watching Laura because she is authentic original style Oregonian. Humble sweet natured. Really cute sense of humor. Honest and straight forward. Not at all what I call a "camera junkie". (Some somewho is on camara more than the items!) The fact that she specializes in a price range that average person can afford but still upgrade your decor is really special. Her health of knowledge impresses me every time. And her suggestions and advice.. price less. What a doll. Being "with her" almost makes me want to move back to Oregon.

As a former smoker and genuine mid-century modern human, I am pretty confident that your owl was NOT made as an ashtray. It may have been used as one, but real ashtrays had notches or little tiny trays to hold your cigarette while you drank alcohol. As a person who lived through the owl craze of the early 1970s, my guess is it was a planter since it’s open on both sides. I love your enthusiasm and upbeat attitude. It’s a treat to watch you and I will be subscribing. I hope you’re based in Canada because the prices you’ve mentioned seem rather high and I live about 50 miles from Washington DC, which I know is expensive.

From her wording about all of the items she's putting in her basket, she alludes to having sold many of the same items before at the prices she mentions. If she has an online store, there are definitely people out there who will pay. Just an anecdote here. When I first started doing clients hair I would be self-conscious about charging what I was worth until an older seasoned co-worker told me more than once "don't spend other people's money. The mauve vase is from a company called Zanesville out of Ohio. They had a lot of teal and, later, that pink glaze. It's characterized by a thick glaze, often with firing flaws like poors and some crazing. They are never signed because the original owner said they were so famous they didn't need to be stamped or signed. I collect the teal/blue green pieces. This rose color is lovely!

It would be really valuable to do a follow-up video with the actual realized profit (money in hand), I love these videos and watch many other thrifters too, but I suspect many are also aspirational figures of anticipated profits; yes, these are the prices at Amazon, etc. but how much do people really fork over? To keep it real, it would be great if those who do these videos do a follow-up where they compare what the hoped-for profit was and what the actual one is, if that makes sense. I know I'd love to see that. You have a great eye and congrats on all of the great finds

The actual profit on the investment may take days, weeks, months, even a year to see (that is if it even sells)..so I'm sure these figurative values are "expected returns" and not "made in 1 day" The turn-around time to sell these things vary..Not to mention the amount of labor put in

@Tara Johnson I totally agree that this would be really helpful. I am at a stage where I sort of know what to look for, but I’m not actually sure how to make the sales. There are tons of platforms where a reseller could list their items, but as far as I can tell they all have their pros and cons. I don’t necessarily know how to make my listings stand out or how to best determine a reasonable, but still profitable listing price. I definitely have a lot to learn but there’s so many thrift stores in my area and I’m really hoping to turn reselling into my side income. I really love seeing all the unique items in thrift stores and hunting for treasures. Laura and I have a very similar style and I would pick up almost all the same things as her! I absolutely love her content 💕

These are amazing Thrift stores - where I live (in Canada) they are all ridiculously expensive now, incl. any Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Apparently, it's BECAUSE of the upselling business online they have hiked prices to where there's no thrift at all. I went looking for a large glass beer mug $6! & a replacement bedside lamp - no lamps under $25. Insane. Few years ago I met someone who had worked in these stores & she said the staff always took the expensive pieces or worth anything!

@Ellecram

@@lindawales2394 Yes there is very little thrift in the thrift stores anymore. The only kind of places I can find decent fair priced clothing is at St. Vincent de Paul and other (usually church related) local community places. Covid killed the best one we had locally where everything was either 20 cents or 50 cents for coats. Don't think it will be back. Sometimes yard sales can have good finds but those are hit and miss and you need to put a lot of effort into it. I am too old to do that anymore. I just shop at regular stores now for the most part.

@@Ellecram I use a combination of sources and I always find too much. I oy use thrift stores for certain things. Each store has different things ow priced. For example; one has purses cheap, others have cheap housewares, others in my area get donations from high priced department stores. I sell them new without box. Other things I buy at normal retail stores on sale. Seasonal sales are good...but most of the time then I need to store them. They sell faster online so I have to think small for storage. I have learned which stores discount deeper. I purchased a expensive $200. Plus full length coat with fir Hoodie on vacation in a much warmer climate . Although that didn't sell WELL in the warm climate it sells well in my much harsher northern sub- Artic climate. Understanding yrenfs is also important. Many families are going to minimized life styles. unnike a decade ago when clutter was selling. In this instance ( now) only highly collectibles were selling. Also highly usable items sell well such as housewares. High quality housewares such as stainless steel items. Sell well. Walmart USED to have great sales...now not so much. I like to make ate least 4-5xs my investment. $4.00 =$20 sales. I adjust that according to the venue I am selling from. Some have more backroom costs. So I can adjust my costs to make a profit. For example, on classy sights I will sell jewelry in a jewelry box., others I send out items wrapped in a small bubble wrap with a postal envelope. In my area I get many collectibles free by " curb shopping" or "rummage sales" Don't ignore poorer neighborhoods. Many times the " minimalistic children" throw out many " valuable collectable" items. I found London fog suitcase. It was stained from use. I washed it, put a scotch guard on the outside, and sold a $150. LIKE NEW item for $90. I sterilized it AND THEY PAID SHIPPING. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS GETTING AND HAVING TOO MUCH STUFF TO SELL. I AM 68.

The one I bought from Marshall’s (Lux brand?)a few months back is excellent and will give me power on the go and then if I’m not using the phone, it will power my phone up totally within 2-3 hours with some extra to boot. It gives the phone strong power on the go. The only thing is to use a short power cable so that you don’t have all that extra cable hanging around. Then you need to remember to recharge the battery pack as soon as possible so that it’s ready for the next time.

I used to do thrift shop buying and also went to the Rose Bowl when they had their flea markets. Also estate sales. I found so many good buys and made a lot of money selling vintage jewelry on Ebay. I still have a lot of the jewelry I purchased but now that I’m retired I don’t wear much anymore. It was a lot of fun while it lasted.

I’m watching your channel for the first time and it really gets me in the mood to go thrift shopping! BUT.. I have to say, I’ve been in dozens of Goodwill stores and they seem so trashy compared to the ones you’re at in this video. You’re lucky!

I used to resell, mostly clothing because I was always worried about the cost of shipping large items and breakage. Now I'm ready to get back out there and give it a try!

@@leftcoastrevivals I am brand spankin’ new at this whole concept of resale. I usually donate or share. This way I can add a little jingle to my empty pocket without feeling guilty. Thank you for helping me see that I can be wise and honest while still helping others.

I like that you pick up vintage items that you know that your BUYERS would like, even if it's not something that you would like. 😉
