The pier that you found that you were looking for five years Dr. Laurie had just mentioned about a piece last night that she had seen and some other shop up in New England state somewhere there on her show last night I think you’re you’re very well educated on your knowledge on antiques I’ve done antiques most of my life, and You’re very very well knowledgeable on stuff. I was more into the furniture and the but I did it also for myself.. but I think you got a lot of nice deals. I just can’t believe the price and how much things have gone up. I haven’t done it in like 10 years at least. 15 I know.

@Linda-un6xm That's because the staff didn't pick out the pieces they wanted. Had a friend that used to work at the GoodWill. She said how when the donations came in. The staff would pick and select the "good stuff." The junk left over, that went on the floor.

I'm not a reseller. I'm 69 so a lot of the things you collected came from my youth. I am very impressed with your education of the pieces. I recognized many items from my past and had to laugh at the value. FYI the see through frog was used as a soap or sponge holder by a sink. To be honest I aways thought those frog or owl porcelain pieces were ugly decorative items. But for years I kept the 'made in China' pieces my mother had received with flowers in them after giving birth. My mother would have said the same thing, so I understand the draw. In my youth I was a potter. I really love that you placed high value on the artists and their work. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I've been decluttering because I've downsized to a very small space, but those collectable items draw me in. I wish I had been a reseller of vintage items. Thank you for the fun ride.

As a former smoker and genuine mid-century modern human, I am pretty confident that your owl was NOT made as an ashtray. It may have been used as one, but real ashtrays had notches or little tiny trays to hold your cigarette while you drank alcohol. As a person who lived through the owl craze of the early 1970s, my guess is it was a planter since it’s open on both sides. I love your enthusiasm and upbeat attitude. It’s a treat to watch you and I will be subscribing. I hope you’re based in Canada because the prices you’ve mentioned seem rather high and I live about 50 miles from Washington DC, which I know is expensive.

We took a couple of days in the redwoods as well. I learned from a dealer that the craftsmen making pieces out of myrtle wood are dying off and becoming scarce. I noticed a decline since the last time we were in southern Oregon more than a decade ago.

Your knowledge of art and pottery is amazing. The ability to spot a designer piece at a glance is invaluable for your purposes. I like that you have a " lane " and you stay in it, in that you are honed in on what you sell rather than a scattered approach. It takes practice to achieve focus like that. Amazing haul. It would be really valuable to do a follow-up video with the actual realized profit (money in hand), I love these videos and watch many other thrifters too, but I suspect many are also aspirational figures of anticipated profits; yes, these are the prices at Amazon, etc. but how much do people really fork over? To keep it real, it would be great if those who do these videos do a follow-up where they compare what the hoped-for profit was and what the actual one is, if that makes sense. I know I'd love to see that. You have a great eye and congrats on all of the great finds

Yup! You hit the nail on the head. I am also a seller and to get that kind of actual figure takes a lot of time. The actual profit on the investment may take days, weeks, months, even a year to see (that is if it even sells)..so I'm sure these figurative values are "expected returns" and not "made in 1 day" The turn-around time to sell these things vary..Not to mention the amount of labor put in

Projected profit VS actual profit are totally different. We all tend to over value what we believe something is worth vs what someone else is willing to pay for it 😳it would be helpful for you to do maybe once a month recap on what you actually take in on your sales. Please include the WoW price and the 😩 price. Then you would really be the coach to others you wish to be. Otherwise you are just advertising yourself. Thank you 🙏

There are tons of platforms where a reseller could list their items, but as far as I can tell they all have their pros and cons. I don’t necessarily know how to make my listings stand out or how to best determine a reasonable, but still profitable listing price. I definitely have a lot to learn but there’s so many thrift stores in my area and I’m really hoping to turn reselling into my side income. I'm so impressed with your knowledge of brands, ages, and artiists' names--that Sanborn!!! Since you grab so many wonderful BREAKABLE items, may I make a suggestion? If these stores have the smaller hand shopping baskets, could you add one inside your large cart so your treasures have less room to "wander" and possibly fall?

These are amazing Thrift stores - where I live (in Canada) they are all ridiculously expensive now, incl. any Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Apparently, it's BECAUSE of the upselling business online they have hiked prices to where there's no thrift at all. I went looking for a large glass beer mug $6! & a replacement bedside lamp - no lamps under $25. Insane. Few years ago I met someone who had worked in these stores & she said the staff always took the expensive pieces or worth anything!

I agree Kay. I've visited many goodwills in various states. Never have I ran across this kind of quantity of great vintage finds, most everything of any value at Goodwill now is behind glass and priced very high.
@Ellecram
@Ellecram Жыл бұрын
@@lindawales2394 Yes there is very little thrift in the thrift stores anymore. The only kind of places I can find decent fair priced clothing is at St. Vincent de Paul and other (usually church related) local community places. Covid killed the best one we had locally where everything was either 20 cents or 50 cents for coats. Don't think it will be back. Sometimes yard sales can have good finds but those are hit and miss and you need to put a lot of effort into it. I am too old to do that anymore. I just shop at regular stores now for the most part.
@pamelahawn9300
@pamelahawn9300 Жыл бұрын
@@Ellecram I use a combination of sources and I always find too much. I oy use thrift stores for certain things. Each store has different things ow priced. For example; one has purses cheap, others have cheap housewares, others in my area get donations from high priced department stores. I sell them new without box. Other things I buy at normal retail stores on sale. Seasonal sales are good...but most of the time then I need to store them. They sell faster online so I have to think small for storage. I have learned which stores discount deeper. I purchased a expensive $200. Plus full length coat with fir Hoodie on vacation in a much warmer climate . Although that didn't sell WELL in the warm climate it sells well in my much harsher northern sub- Artic climate. Understanding yrenfs is also important. Many families are going to minimized life styles. unnike a decade ago when clutter was selling. In this instance ( now) only highly collectibles were selling. Also highly usable items sell well such as housewares. High quality housewares such as stainless steel items. Sell well. Walmart USED to have great sales...now not so much. I like to make ate least 4-5xs my investment. $4.00 =$20 sales. I adjust that according to the venue I am selling from. Some have more backroom costs. So I can adjust my costs to make a profit. For example, on classy sights I will sell jewelry in a jewelry box., others I send out items wrapped in a small bubble wrap with a postal envelope. In my area I get many collectibles free by " curb shopping" or "rummage sales" Don't ignore poorer neighborhoods. Many times the " minimalistic children" throw out many " valuable collectable" items. I found London fog suitcase. It was stained from use. I washed it, put a scotch guard on the outside, and sold a $150. LIKE NEW item for $90. I sterilized it AND THEY PAID SHIPPING. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS GETTING AND HAVING TOO MUCH STUFF TO SELL. I AM 68.

First time watching your video late at night right after visiting my local Goodwill to initially drop off a donation after a not so hot garage sale. I already got excited at Goodwill, however, after watching your shopping spree video I couldn’t even fall asleep & was even more excited & inspired & couldn’t wait to go back the next morning as soon as Goodwill opened! Very inspirational! I love the way you filmed going into the stores, the shelves, & items on them & especially that you shared your knowledge of designer names & their items! You have to somewhat have a good knowledge base of artisanal designers & a good eye for original, unique pieces, & also have a sense of design when staging these pieces! What I loved most & was surprised about was that you found a Mikasa crystal candle holder & left it because it was single…… that same day earlier I too found a single Mikasa crystal candleholder, but because I liked it so much, decided to get it for myself; tomorrow I will take a better double look to see if I can find the other one. ALSO, I recently purchased a beautiful matte white Kaiser vase at a local antique store, it had a matching smaller vase to it with the same motif! I was so excited when you picked it! I couldn’t believe it! I love my find & they’re both displayed in a lit up display cabinet in my living room, top shelf! Absolutely Beautiful! (Although I paid well over $100 for them! I wish I had found them at Goodwill! I’m really debating this attractive moneymaking hobby/ work! I’m most hesitant of the work that comes after the shopping & cleaning of pieces! …… not even the photography as much as the computer work & branding/ website, however, loved the video you produced! Very positive, encouraging, exciting, & informative. I paid attention to the pieces you chose, a lot of pottery & metal items! I love “glass” myself, have to brush up on my knowledge of fine porcelain, crystal, & art glass. I live in the Midwest, Chicago. Don’t know if that makes a difference. Anyways, I came upon your video by chance! Thanks for making & sharing it! Trisha!

Your editing was to the point and I appreciated that within the first item found forward. You nailed it when you pointed out steady panning so that we may get a clear pause to look over the shelves ourselves. I immediately have to ditch channels who can't provide this because frustration is the last thing I want in this kind of content. You have a magnificent eye and even the few pieces I couldn't find attractive, their resell value was understandable. All in all I have to say that you've pretty much perfected in this [sadly] one-off video what 95% of well intending channels base their Entire Content on!
