Code Veronica directly continues Claire's story from RE2 and reunites her with Chris. After remaking 2 and 3, it makes the most sense to continue with CV. It's a shame this game didn't get a proper number because Code Veronica really deserved the number 4 in its name, more than the game they actually gave it to. Actually, I got CV on Dreamcast and I refered to it as RE4 until they they came out with the Gamecube RE4

See I never played RE3 original. So playing the remake was my first time and I really enjoyed it. It was a bit short and if i'd paid full price for it i'd have probably been disappointed. However I guess I was lucky that the remake was my first because from what i've heard they did the original dirty.

Look.. I dont mind the newer RE remakes with the new engine, theyre great. But the remake of 2002 is already perfect. The fixed camera angles add a big amount of tension that in a FPS or over-the-shoulder 3D views isnt there. What made these games terrifying was not knowing whats coming around the corner when you open a door or when you jump to a different angle. Hearing a growling sound and not knowing where it is coming from. Thats why the REmake was the best in my opinion, much more immersive and scary. And I only wish they couldve remade RE2 and RE3 in this way, at least to have that option avaiable.

If it's first/third perspective like RE2make or RE7 that would be interesting. But, I will never forget playing RE on my PSX. Nothing compares to that original nostalgic experience. I still prefer it over the remake, even if the first remake is probably the greatest remake of all time. If they change the story or characters I'm out.

The original has a totally different atmosphere. It also has a way better opening. You're free to roam the mansion, while the remake kinda forces you to play the new added sections first. The remake does however feel like an amazing arranged mode to the original. Playing them back to back is a fun experience

My question is: why? RE1 was already remade in 2002, and it's a game that to this day stands out, perfectly remaking and expanding upon the original whilst letting us feel more than what they originally offered. I ask myself the same thing about the remake of RE4, which it didn't really needed it aside from a color palette change (and fyi, a fan-made HD project was just finished by the time it was announced, remaking EVERY texture and detail to a modern standard) I think RE2R was decent, RE3R was a complete insult, and RE4R was unnecessary; one common trope is they take the story way too serious, and RE was never about story seriousness. It's cheesy! It's meant to be with funny one-liners and the occasional pun. We also have to keep in mind that this, if this Remake project goes forward, it would be FOURTH time we go back to the Spencer Mansion. Twice with the Original and RE1 2002, a third time with Umbrella Chronicles and a fourth one would be this one. I cannot envision a Remake of a Remake going well, changing Jill into a foul-mouthed "strong female protagonist" (in comparison to her actual origins: a former Delta Force operator that can keep her cool, care for her team) and Chris into a somewhat side character. WOuld it happen like that? Maybe with Jill (they have done it in RE3R), Chris, maybe not, I hope not. I don't know who is asking this but Capcom, don't. Remake Outbreak, or any of the Gun Survivor games, or even Dino Crisis. Resident Evil needs a break, because it's starting to be like CoD: a RE remake every year.

It was remade almost 23 years ago. That is a lifetime in video game design/tech. The hd remaster of the og gamecube game is amazing. But let's also enjoy a reimagined RE1 too. Don't get why some ppl are so opposed to this. The 2002 version is still in the world if you wanna keep playing that over and over again. But let those of us who want to see a RE engine RE1 remake look forward to it, if indeed it is coming. Stop being so nuts about it.

@m1garand164 don't get me wrong, enjoy it if you want to and heck, I may even like it as well! The problem is that it WILL overshadow previous versions of the story that we already know. It happened with RE2 AND RE3 remakes, overshadowing the originals and rewriting characters in a way that doesn't make sense (example, the new Jill). The Remake of RE1 added so much into the world of Resident Evil, with the Trevor family and Lisa, especially; the entire Spencer Mansion and the story of Umbrella and their viral works, all expanded. I fear that by attempting to make it look gorgeous and horrifying, some of that lore is going to get overlooked/ rewritten poorly. For the casual gamer, it is just another game. For the fan of RE, it can be another kick in the groin.

Personal take: The 2015 remaster of the 2002 remake is good enough for me that I’d prefer them to remake Code Veronica or something else. The 2015 game actually had the dynamic lighting and shadows and there was a tremendous amount of work put into the atmosphere that was not at all present in the 2002 remake. It’s sad that so many people are not aware of the 2015 remaster because I feel like that’s the perfect balance between updating the classic and sticking to everything that made it so great. Like I said, just my own personal take here.

If it had an improved map (icons on doors like in RE2), an improved inventory (allow you to use/combine items on the spot), and faster door transitions, I would agree. They’re small things, but they do make playing the game a massive chore. On top of that, exploring the Spencer Mansion in full 3D with seamless rooms would be amazing. I’m personally looking forward to this remake when it inevitably happens.

There's no denying that to average "uninformed" consumer, that at a glance, it could be confused with a official Pokemon game. You and I might disagree as "informed" gamers, but that's how copyright law works, and how judges decide claims. And Nintendo didn't care in 2021 because it wasn't on Steam trying to make money off Nintendo's copyright intellectual property. Dinosaurs on the other hand, actually existed in real life. They are public domain, nobody has copyright over use of dinosaurs in any media. Even setting a game in a theme park with cloned dinosaurs would be acceptable. Universal could only make a copyright claim if you reference the Jurassic Park/World brand directly, such as using the Jurassic Park font, or it takes place within the "Jurassic" franchise. But even then that's fine for a fan game, the problem starts if you try to profit from the fan game, In which case, Universal could say you are profiting from their IP, and a Palworld situation happens. Also, as relates to fan games, a company can issue a copyright claim not just if you are profiting from it, but if it interferes with a game they have planned internally but not announced. The issue is, every major publisher has games on lists that they are "developing" for the legal department, but actually have no intention of investing in making the game. For example, EA and the System Shock IP. Anyway, lots of information there. Hope you find it helpful.

They are likely sued for "the way players aim the capture sphere at the targeted pal, judgement of success, and the change of ownership of pal to player upon success". Dinosaurs, based on their appearance, may fall into the public domain; however, their sounds are subject to copyright. I believe that determines the possibility of a Dino Crisis Remake. Universal Studios is making strides with the Jurassic World series, with its fourth installment set to premiere in 2025. Capcom may consider it unworthy to seek licensing as a litigation prevention strategy, or they might not wish to allocate funds for legal defense in a potential lawsuit.

The remakes are filling the place of side games that we got between major entries in the past. Survivor, Dead Aim, even the Revelations, Outbreak and Chronicles games were meant to fill that void between the next big new game. So between RE7 and 8 we got two remakes - between 8 and 9 at least one remake. No side games other than multiplayer experiments and Umbrella corps dropped prior to 7. I just think it’s silly that the fandom sometimes thinks remakes are taking away from new games - they’re not. They’re always working on multiple games at the same time

I think the real possible issue with "Fatigue" is if they botch the process like they did with the 3 remake and force it on hurried rails, instead of offering the chance to really explore like the 2 REmake did. I haven't played 4 so I don't know what that's like yet. If they remake 1 and it gets the 2 treatment, then I don't think it'll suffer from fatigue.

The thing is when they say "We need to remake the game instead of remastering it, since it would be better for Modern story." It's so dumb they would not only change the story that's already well-made but also change the character's appearance. When I played Resident Evil 4 Remake "Ashley" in the game didn't feel like the original "Ashley" from the old one at all, but more like she was replaced with someone else who is trying to be like her, instead of being her. The same could be said about Ada Wong too, loved her in Resident Evil 4 original and Resident Evil 6. But in the new Remake for RE2 & 4, she's nothing like the old once that's way better.

I think if they remake 5 without remaking number 1 1st , I think it would be a dumb idea . Because if they do 1 1st then 5 ! It will give a good backstory on Chris for number 5 when it does come out after. It will be like how resident evil 2 remake is to resident evil 4 . So they should do r.e.1 remake then r.e.5 remake in that order! And I fully believe as long as they stick to the original characters and story just with a now modern twist to it they will do great . I’m pretty sure capcom has already gone on record to say there will be no remake of RE1 since a remake already exists. Their plans currently are code Veronica, RE0, RE9 and RE5. Resident Evil is no longer a yearly release game like it was for RE2, RE3, and RE8. After 8 it was 2 years before we got RE4 and it’s the end of 2024 and we still have no word on what the guaranteed next one will be which leads me to believe the next one will drop in 2026. If it keeps up that pattern of 1 game every 3 years, even if they are fine with remaking RE1 again it won’t be for another 15 years from now.

Im 100% all for a 2025 edition of the OG resident evil, Spencer mansion with delicious new graphics, yes please! Its definitely an important title so they simply cant overlook that, its influence is to be celebrated and Shinji Mikami always did express an interest in first person but was easier to produce in the cinematic camera angles we've come to know, thankyou heaps for covering this, im still holding on to the hope of a Dino Crisis remake gosh ive seen some awesome fan made games, how can they continue to ignore how spectacular that could be with new speccy graphics is beyond me all i continue to hear are rumours id love to hear something official for both these titles

I could imagine a remake of final fantasy 15. The improvement is better physics without their arms getting through plants or walls as they hit and interact with it in real time, clothing physics so they tear up during battle, they also lose hair from stress, photorealistic characters, AI NPCs, and it is supported on a quantum computer which makes the gaming experience like real life.

The original doesn’t need a remake, the GameCube remake is a masterpiece and still holds up perfectly even now, some 22+ years later. Code Veronica, or even a game like Dino Crisis, is in MUCH more need of a remake instead.

@@samperrin7965 There’s nothing wrong with that, but the fixed camera and “tank controls” are a core part of the classic survival horror style, and it’s part of what makes horror games from that era special. I’d recommend really going back and giving it a try again. There’s tons of RE4 style games now, but they really dont games in that style like REmake anymore, maybe you might see what people like me find great about them.

I think they should do a remake of RE1 in the RE engine because of the retcon of the story in village. If mother Miranda has been around since before the official story starts in RE1 it wouldn’t make sense in later games. Giving the fact that Spencer himself was a student of Miranda. If they do this remake maybe we’ll find some notes about Spencer talking about Miranda.

Gamecube remake was great, one of my favourite in the franchise. But it would definitely benifit from a better camera and better controls. The tank control games just don't hold up imo. Theyre amazing in atmosphere, story, sound design and gameplay mechanics, but the controls just make them feel sluggish compared to the newer games. However my main issue with the remakes, especially the 3rd one, is how much content seems to be cut, or changed for no reason. New voice acting, better models and better controls is all these remakes need

I hope that RE1 gets a remake of a remake in RE Engine one day in the future. But I think there is a much greater chance or Code Veronica or RE5 getting their remakes first. Not to mention future mainline titles too. Capcoms release strategy with Resident Evil games sense RE7 seems to be a new mainline numbered title, then a remake, then a new title, then a remake and so on.

@@theshredguitarist25 re1 remake is more of a remix than anything, all it does is fix minor issues, add cut content and additional content. It’s the original game with a decent coat of paint. Many new RE fans have been introduced by the remakes and miss out on re1 story and atmosphere because they can’t handle the tank controls and large possible replays of sections that you’ve failed.

He has been in any of the remakes and some fans have to explore the re world with him in it to better understand his role in re8. Re1 remake with Chris, Jill, and Wesker leading into cv is necessary. Make re1 remake first in order to show us why Wesker hates Chris so much in cv to even go as far as hurt Claire. But re5 doesn't need a remake lmao its fine as is. The actual backbone of the resident evil series as it changed forever after that.

RE1 got me into horror gaming back in the 90's. Along with watching Alien on TV(highly edited version on TBS), the two have long since been the tinder that fueled the fire that is my love of the horror genre and even lead me to become a more avid reader. Would love an over the shoulder remake of RE1 like we got with 2,3,4(though 4 was already over the shoulder but still loved the update). was a bit turned off by the first person of 7 and 8 though 7 is an absolute glory entry to the franchise. I know i'll get some push back from this but 8 was lacking, turning more to action and away from horror (for the most part, there are definitely still horror elements in it). but the over the shoulder just "feels" more appropriate to me given the full body models in fixed camera angles we saw in the original titles. Would also love to see Zero get the remake treatment as well. if you haven't played RE1 (Original) or the Remaster (gamecube, which is also available on PS currently), def give them a go.

Capcom should try to make another engine that remakes all of their games automatically especially the graphics so they don't have to put too much stress in re making them. But the mechanics is more complex to think of. Maybe an AI can be used to get creative in remaking them?
