Here we go! I have finally reviewed Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The last entry in the PlayStation One era of Resident Evil. Does it live up to the high bar established by its predecessor? Mmmm yah.

i played through all of Resident Evil but my first was the first part on ps1 and since then i have been addicted. RE2 is a masterpiece the story the characters everything harmonized but RE3 was fresher differently and everything was randomized (opponent, puzzle, etc.) and Nemesis was the cherry on the cake. The first contact with nemi was unbelievable I thought that I would do a short process but they learned me a better one. Nemesis gave me more fear than the first zombie maybe because he was armed and can go through almost every door and he has killed me so many times. When I finally played through the game it felt so intense it was like Bloodborn from 1999 and that's why RE3 is my absolute favorite game of all times. And not this bad remake where we got.

Mihawk Falkenauge yeah I totally agree. RE3 is where all the pieces fell perfectly into place and the designs reached their peak. Though I enjoy RE2 more, I greatly appreciate 3 because of how well it did the formula and how fucking intense it was.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is the one I go back to the most. The first game hasn't aged very well with some artificial design and slow turning, though I do respect it for introducing me to the franchise. The second game gave me some of the strongest first impressions of any game and has the best story of the three, but it does feel like a safe follow-up in some areas and wears out its welcome after four playthroughs. This entry feels the best to play thanks to the 180° turn and dodging, the randomiser which makes repeat playthroughs interesting and retain the tense factor of a first playthrough especially with Nemesis, the high replay value, less tedious backtracking, and the best difficulty. Not unfair like the first, neither is it easy like the second. Maybe it's my bias for the number 3 in video game trilogies (Crash 3, Spyro 3, Wipeout 3, Tomb Raider 3, etc) but RE3 really feels like the series' peak. Code Veronica is pretty good, but I don't care for it as much as 3 and 2.
@sunderlandspook1875
@sunderlandspook1875 4 жыл бұрын
Oh I completely agree. RE3 is the culmination of lessons learnt from two previous games. I haven't played Code Veronica yet and I am not looking forward to it.
@ultrairrelevantnobody1862
@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 4 жыл бұрын
I will say this. The knife in Code Veronica is really good. As long as you know to swipe the zombie's legs, you'll be able to save a lot of ammo. I'm not a fan of the graphics aside from the improved character models, and I haven't found anything legit scary yet, but from what I've played, it's alright. I do miss the dodge mechanic.
@sunderlandspook1875
@sunderlandspook1875 4 жыл бұрын
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 I have heard the knife is OP so that will be my weapon of choice. Especially since that first boss can completely destroy a run if you haven't got enough ammo.

In my own personal opinion. Nemesis is one of those villains that manages to scare the living daylights out of me when I was playing this game. Nemesis isn't just scary, because he's bigger, and stronger. He's scarier, because he's unpredictable. You'll never gonna know when he's gonna show up. He can pop up at any moment, and at any time. And, you'll never gonna see him coming. I remember when I was playing this level where I have to find a diamond in the restaurant. And, soon as I about go to the door. Nemesis just pop up out of nowhere, and I was like WTF??? 😨 And, when I played this level over again. When i enter the restaurant, and went down the sewer part where i have to kill those zombies. But soon as i obtain the diamond. I hear these loud thumping sounds from upstairs. And, i was like: What the hell was that? But when i finally got up there. Nemesis for some odd reason, still manages to find me here. 😱 That's what makes nemesis scarier is that he's very unpredictable. 😲

My favourite game of the series. I play it once every year. Never gets boring to me. We bought it when it came out, being 11 old at the time I couldn't handle it, always playing it with my brother or a friend for moral support. As an adult, now 30, certain moments still make my heart skip beats. While everyone always praises the first appearance of nemesis for me the second one is always much worse. Getting out of the stars office and hearing a glass shatter somewhere. Then down the stairs you go. And he smashes another one, just when you turn your back. Extremely unsettling and really hard for me to get used to it. Also in the station if you choose not to fight, the game shows you that this new enemy can also follow you in different screens by playing that unsettling theme. Also I will forever remember the nightmare fuel of a scene that was the one when you got the oil additive in the umbrella lab. That cutscene was so hardcore for when I was a kid, that even now I shut my eyes when it plays. Many more I guess. But I talk a lot....

A close friend of mine reintroduced me to this game and I forgot what a gem this is. So much atmosphere, unpredictability and a powerful monster coming after you nonstop made me realize a lost art in video games. That remake was wasted potential and a shell compared to the original. I wish they just updated the graphic/voice acting and I’d be very happy. I really enjoy this semi post apocalyptic setting that was very gloomy and filled with a lot of life. There’s also the idea of the stakes being raised or a sense of pressure. I really loved the little detail of the zombies becoming restless as Carlos states. A different unusual sound is made by the monsters to show how they’ve destroyed everything and how they’re pretty much eating machines. That was a very spooky detail. It pulls me in as a gamer and I don’t really play games that much like I used to. A true classic, this game.

Catherine Disher (who voiced Jill Valentine in RE3) was also in a really good but cheesy horror show from the mid 1990s called Forever Knight where she plays a morgue attendant who aids in helping an 800 year old vampire cop in solving various crimes around Toronto - and her performance in that show is pretty similar here where it's a constant stream of sass and "Oh god, why do I have to be here?" Great video though, I actually think that RE3 is my second favourite of the PS1 titles (next to RE2) and it's probably the most underrated of the franchise - although I think people mostly remember Resident Evil 3 as the one that featured Nemesis, even if it's still a really solid game on its own right.

Yeah, I basically agree with you on this one, this is some real good shit. RE3 is a refinement of 1 and 2, with some elements (namely Nemesis and the little intricacies of his implementation) still holding up when compared to similar things today.

Started with RE4 as my 1st RE, but I do love these classic survival horror RE games too. Used to think RE2 1998 was my favorite of the classic RE games. But after finally playing RE3 1999 following the extremely disappointing "remake," I think RE3 1999 is my favorite of the classic trilogy. Great video btw.

Genome Soldat thanks! My first RE game was RE5. I remember getting really hyped for it as a kid. I still prefer RE2 in the classic trilogy, but I think RE3 is the most intense and scary title in the entire franchise. Plus it’s where Jill actually became Jill so it’s a classic imo.
@Gruntvc

@Sunderland, I really enjoyed RE5 too. Felt like a good send off for RE. Always felt RE6 and RE7 are reboots that while enjoyable, they aren't as good as RE1-RE5. I do think RE2 1998 has the better story, Claire A Leon B, and the music is excellent. But RE3 Nemesis 1999 just feels and plays better. Nemesis is definitely the best Tyrant of the franchise.

Re2 isn’t balanced, it’s way too easy. Doesn’t mean it’s not my equal favourite game ever (shared with re3) but it’s certainly not perfectly balanced, even the game director himself says he wished it was harder and he feels they dialled the difficulty back too far.

The mine thrower is such a good weapon once you get the Nemesis upgrade for it as it becomes a homing mine thrower. It's just a shame that the upgrade comes toward the end of the game. The squishing noise it makes as it decapitates multiple zombies in a row is so satisfying 👌

I played it before and it was my favorite RE game hell even one of my favorite games in general my I used to play it with my father and we loved it a lot because it had so much content, one of my favorite reasons was because of nemesis despite being the main enemy he was very persistent and has 3 different forms he was an awesome abomination and I am glad that this review was there to take me back through the days of shooting and inevitable deaths, so thank you for the video and good luck with the future videos!

Dodge mechanic is a case of git gud. Try turning around first before trying to shove zombies. For some enemies it's better to dodge with X while holding R1, for others it's just R1. It also comes clutch in Mercenaries for stacking time. You can make it consistent no problem if you just sit down and practice on the first nemesis. Great review, i really enjoyed it

13:33 So, there is no actual r&g in this game. Item and ammo placement works on a “tile set” system. How it works for ammo and items is that there are the exact same number of items in every playthrough (for each difficulty), but there are 2 (I *think,*) set locations things spawn in. When I first got this game (on it’s launch) I didn’t have a memory card and used to one-shot this game sometimes twice a day... for about 4 months straight, lol. That’s how I figured out the enemy placements, ammo, and items weren’t random.Non-cutscene Nemmy encounters aren’t random either. It’s dependent on where you go and when, and if you choose to fight Nemmy or run. So obviously, the more you run from him the more you’ll encounter him. But those encounters are still dictated by player-controlled variables.
@roguenova6766
@roguenova6766 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's what I've noticed, too: if you learn how to fight Nemesis properly - just proceed to killing him at each scripted encounter, and he'll leave you alone for most of the exploration time. He's really not that different from Mr. X in that regard, just appears more often.

I couldn't stand the nemesis boss fights. As you say the dodge basically just doesn't work so I felt like it was more down to luck than skill if I managed to survive. There were times I genuinely felt like just putting the game down and quitting because I was just dying repeatedly. The only reason I managed to complete it is because I used save states, not to help me win just to get rid of the loading screens because I was having to open 2 doors every time I died... And I died a lot.
