Just the change of now being able to move while aiming and firing is enough to make me want to buy it. That was the one thing I didn't care for with the original, was having to stand still while aiming. All the other changes are nice as well, but that's the one I'm most excited for. They left out a big one. & one noone seems to be mentioning. The enemies are no longer copy pastes like in the original. 10 dudes trying to kill you, and they all have an individual appearance. This is huge for immersion

Excellent point! I wonder how many times they’ll be reused? In the castle section when they threw the flash grenade followed by the knife kill that enemy was a bald female….moments later going up the stairs right before the main locked castle door Leon shotguns another female enemy that looked to be identical! You can tell that individual looking enemies is more prominent now which as you said is so much more realistic! Good thinking though not many have pointed that out being so mesmerized by everything else I guess lol!

Acording to the devs some places demand you to use a gun, so it's possible to do a mostly knife only, not full knife only. I guess the same could be said of RE4 OG, you HAD to use guns in a few parts where Ashley was too far away.

The knife fight with KRAUSER was dope, I wish they kept it the way it was. It really showed how the two agents varied in style and badassitude. Yes, QTE's are lame, but they are not when done right, and the original NAILED it. Oh well...

I agree to a certain extent! Imo they should’ve had a traditional cutscene with a few button prompts to show off (as you rightfully stated) the differences in Leon & Krauser’s combat abilities more like Krauser toying with Leon a bit! After the cutscene that’s when the actual boss fight would start! If I had ti pick one over the other then I’m glad it’s a playable fight…it’s different, utilizes the knife in a fight that it’s the only weapon you used plus a good warm up before facing Krauser in his two phase boss fight! Which has me wondering how they implemented this fight as it was one of my favorites in the original along with The Village Chief, Verdugo & U3!!!

It was convenient in some areas like the catapults where you could make her stand back or instances with the dumpsters which are not in the remake but it’s definitely more realistic not having the option to make her freeze up & stand still! Also it’ll add to the immersion/story knowing you must actually protect her so that’s cool especially if it’s balanced well which it seems to be! I’m so excited it feels like I’m going on a real mission to save the Presidents daughter from a bunch of plagued villagers, cult members, giants & other monstrosities lmao! I’m super pumped to experience this new version of 4!

Everything we’ve seen so far looks almost one to one. I saw some gameplay of Leon and Ashley at the castle and the environment itself looks like a vastly upscaled albeit reimagined take of the same location in the original game. We haven’t seen the island yet, but I’m confident it’s going to feel familiar to us.

I really am worried the whole stabbing on the ground move and parrying system might break the game. I can just see a shoot legs and stab head reputation getting out of hand. And the parrying seems cool, but like it could make combat encounters trivial.

I have similar concerns, less of breaking the game and more that this will be a great action adventure game but a disappointing survival horror game. I think the heavy focus on melee and close combat abilities could make enemies feel less dangerous. What they have looks great, for sure, and when dealing with a large number of advancing enemies I could see the player feeling overwhelmed. I don't know if most of the enemies are ever going to seem "scary", though, as it seems like getting up close and personal with them is going to be the most efficient way to deal with them in most cases. Comparing that to the early games or RE2 Remake - where your close quarters options are very limited and you want to keep enemies at a distance as much as possible - and I get the sense that this will be more like Callisto Protocol in that it has horror-inspired enemy designs and environments, but gameplay that makes the scares and tension less effective. This looks like it'll be a great action game with strong exploration and cool enemies. I doubt it'll be anywhere near as good of a survival horror experience as the remakes of RE1, RE2, or Dead Space, however.

I know in the re2 remake they do, but in the OG re4, you could indefinitely use your knife which made the scariest enemy in the game, the regenerators/iron maidens, not scary at all. As once I found out years after playing re4, shoot their legs, run up to them and spam your knife till their dead. Totally safe as, knife spamming puts them into a stun lock.

I hate to say this, but original RE4 was meh for me, and that's why I'm not interested in RE4R. It's when Resident Evil stopped being Resident Evil and horror focused. The story became gimmicky and more like James Bond. RE1-RE3 are where it's at. And Code Veronica is actually the last good RE game. Code Veronica might have deserved a remake more, the game is scary AF at the beginning especially. But it wasn't as popular as RE4, which was the point of entry for many casuals, so obviously they remade RE4 with a profit objective. I know exactly what RE4R is going to be looking at the video, it's going to be RE4 with a fresh coat of paint on it. Same dumb parasite zombies and such. The big Lord of the Rings Trolls, etc.

It’s true RE4 was more an action title with mild horror elements as opposed to the survival horror of the originals. Also every RE game after it just tried to piggy back off it and was terrible. Looking at you 5 and 6. Biohazard returned to the more horror aspect but didn’t really feel like an RE game, felt more like Outlast. Frankly you’re right that RE4 killed off the soul of the franchise.
