I would very much like to see Jonathan Ferguson, the Keeper of Firearms and Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history, to react to the guns of RE5. It's unique among all the other RE titles in how it uses the actual names for its weapons (case in point, the MP5 is actually called the H&K MP5 instead of the LE5. Or how the Dragunov is named SVD Dragunov).
@kayce8519 ай бұрын
It's not unique, the older games like the PS1 Resident Evil, RE2 also used the real firearm names as well in the descriptions (original R3 might have also but I can't remember). Virtually all video games have moved away from doing this because it's not worth paying the licensing fee to use the real names and no one really wants to give gun manufacturers money.

Interesting bit of trivia on the Ruger Blackhawk: The three screws on the video game model are actually accurate for ones manufactured before 1973. Before that it was very similar to a Colt SAA (but more robust and better springs). The most apparent change after 1973 was the addition of a transfer bar so that the gun could be safely loaded with 6 rounds.

I imagine the barrel of the rail cannon opening like that is part of the heat venting process. It doesn't make a big show of steam release, but that's the only thing I can think of to justify the motion in a logical sense. Beyond that, it's done because it makes the gun look techy and cool.

7:40 The MP5 in .380ACP is probably due to game play considerations. You find 380 ammunition in the game, intended for the MAC 11, which is indeed 380. So they gave you an MP5 that can shot that ammo. Also, they wanted for game play considerations the SMG ammo and pistol ammo to be not interchangable. So Pistol/Revolver=9mm - SMG =.380

Mr. Ferguson, if you think about the character of Clair the base SW M60 makes sense. In the US as I'm sure you know every state has a provision to issue concealed carry permits. (although some states are still fighting it) So Clair Redfield, being the sister of a Military Vet who is a current Police Officer in Racoon City would know how to shoot and Chris would have probably encouraged her to apply for her concealed carry permit. The SW M60 that you showed, and other SW J frame revolvers were popular for concealed carry during the time frame the games take place.

Slight note; since the upgrade for Claire's snubnose revolver also includes a new cylinder and frame and all of the new parts are from differently textured metal, I *think* Capcom was trying to say that all of the important parts were replaced with some kind of super metal or whatever that would allow a .38 Special frame to handle .357 magnum loads. Again, I must emphasize the 'I *think*' part of that, it's definitely one of the goofier guns in the game imo.

I think you need to do an episode on Helldivers 2. I don't think as basically a comedy Starship Troopers game, they are that realistic, but I would specifically like to see what Jonathan has to say about the support weapons where one of you has the weapon and the other has the ammo and can make something of a sci-fi weapons team. Also I think he would like the fact that FF is always on and when you throw your current magazine out to put in a fresh one you don't magically retain the ammunition inside.
@kylevidetto11158 ай бұрын
For the "Quickdraw Army" in Resident Evil 2 (2019) video game in Claire's B scenario, in which the silhouette is indeed the Ruger Super Blackhawk, is actually inspired by the Colt SAA or Colt Peacemaker as Jonathan Ferguson mentioned here. But rather than the caliber actually being a .44 magnum in reality, I believe Capcom was inferring the .45 Long Colt cartridge that is famously chambered for the Colt Single Action Army revolver, which is a counterpart to the Colt M1911 pistol's .45 ACP cartridge. (Leon uses a knock-off version in scenario B called the M19 pistol) But you know, ammunition commonality is vital to engineering video games software for simplicity reasons.

For the Quickdraw, that animation is *definitely* sped up, which I imagine is because it was actually a motion capture animation. Most games use motion capture nowadays for their high-fidelity animations, so taking a naturally slow to load weapon, capturing an animation of unloading and loading it, then speeding it up in post for balance does at least make sense.

Should be .38 special as Jonathan mentioned. And as Jonathan mentioned it is even weirder that the LE5 (MP5 clone) shoots 32 rounds of .380 ACP according to the text @6:05. Should really be regular 9x19 parabellum! And as Jonathan mentions it is also weird that the Quickdraw Army (Ruger Blackhawk/Single action clone) uses the .45 ACP pistol round.
