Code Veronica is easily the last classic game that could really benefit from the REmake approach. I can't even imagine a reimagined Steve in the same vein as the glow-up Carlos and Ashley have received so far. But, he desperately needs it. Perhaps a reintroduction of the zapping system can be used to overcome the pacing issues in the games final third also. That said, I am surprised the Gun Survivor series hasn't been revived using the RE7/8 engine.

Lol I finally played it in 2007 and got to finish in 2016, which was leading up to R7 then the remakes. Man this series games and movies had a impact on me. As someone who’s never played the original this is my GOTY. The gameplay is so dam addictive, I rarely ever replay games right away after beating them but I’ll admit I was stuck on this for weeks. That DLC was the icing on the cake only Capcom could remake a 10/10 game twice. 🤝🏼

Thanks for all the great Residecember videos! RE4 is my one of my all time favorite games and got me through some hard times in the late aughts. I didn't love RE2R, feeling they cut out some of the magic of the original 1998 version so I was very hesitant to get excited about RE4R, but was so happy that they really caught what that original game was and really improved upon it by reflecting the person Leon really would have been in a world where he escaped a literal hell just before it's nuked off the map. Haunted but determined to fight and still get away with saying shit like "Nighty-night, knights". I do wish you brought up Separate Ways a little more, because I do feel like it saved the underwritten (and perhaps miscast) Ada. Yeah she's still the weakest element of the remake, but I appreciated that SW did salvage this quite a bit. Looking forward to more of your insights in 2024. Cheers!

Great video! RE4 is my fav game of all time. Playing RE4R was such an experience for me that I just wanted to see more of the characters. Not just Leon, but Ashley and Luis too (despite his death). This hadn't happen to me in the original RE4 at all! The characters aren't just funny archetypes, they're really fleshed out characters, nothing particularly genius about their writing but its effective and you can see the writers care so much about the material it's infexious. It's really a testament to the power of writing how a game that juggled 4 different scripts at once at one time or another of it's original development, to now having the time and necessary effort to put it together, limited only by the obligatory story beats. The writing team managed to deliver a very good script on top of a very contrived original one. It's a tremendous feat that can't be overlooked.

Which (spoiler) they did it because that fight now _is_ the DLC, it is now the backbone of the entire DLC in an awesome way. I need a Code Veronica remake as I never owned a PS or Gamecube, so I've never been able to play it. What would be really cool, if they do remake it, is to also port the OG game over as well, and allow those of us who've never experienced the OG game to be able to play it on PC. My first RE game was the OG RE2 and then RE3 when they released in the late 90s, followed up by RE4 on PC, then RE5, RE6, and then RE 1 Remake and RE 0 when those released on PC. At this time, I have own and have played every single RE PC release and I want more!

Best Resident Evil/Biohazard remake to date. Period. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Capcom, give us an escape-Raccoon-City style game that's open-world and full of mysteries and bumps in the night. Like Outbreak, but with a LOT more. You can actually explore the city and there's infinite ways to escape if you use that resourcefulness and puzzle solving skills well.

I enjoy the game, but I have to say, I have always thought RE4R was unnecessary and I don't know that I'll ever see otherwise. I'd hope that RE4R is the last remake, because the plot needs to progress rather than regress to cover up "mistakes" that were never mistakes in the first place.

R E 4 is definitely a great remake for sure it improves practically every aspect from the original i particularly loved leon and Ashley in the remake had a nice older brother and younger sister dynamic that improved the characters greatly especially Ashley is now portrayed as a likeable and sympathetic character giving the player the motivation to wanting to save her from the horrors of las plagus and yeah the mummy 1999 film comparison is very spot on the blending of action adventure horror and comedy is very much akin to how r e 4 balances those elements most effectively never thought of it that way till now that you mentioned it plus it also feels like indiana jones and the temple of doom

I liked RE4R but I couldn't really look past how it had so much less personality than the original. And what little charm the game has is just because it's taken from the original and feels out of place imo (like the bingo line). I give the developers credit for knowing translating the gameplay and updating (tho not enough imo) and mostly knowing what was good to keep and good to cut. However, if you look at the cutscenes that's where the difference really shows itself. The storytelling in this version is so limp and boring compared to the original. Just compare the Introduction of the el gigante and you'll see. Shinji mikami knew how to tell and story and inject energy and personality. This version lacks all of that. And the originals personality played a big part in why its so memorable. This one is just a more straight and serious version which isnt as interesting.

If fact i think RE4 was originally inspired by The Mummy and The Body Snatchers. RE always take thing of classic blockbuster movies, RE1 of Romero's Night of The Living Dead, RE2 of ALIENS and The Thing, RE3 of Terminator, Code Veronica... i still tryng to find the inspiration😅, RE7 of Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Jigsaw (and Swamp Thing in the Zoe's DLC) and RE8 in gothic tales and folklore (and well, RE Infinite Darkness in Black Hawk Down). Wesker in RE5 is very inspired in Neo of Matrix. I can't wait for RE9 (and maybe, Code Veronica Remake if Capcom loves us hahaha).

For me to this day Gameplay comes first. This is the reason why I don't love The Last of Us. The story is good but the core gameplay just can't keep up to the OGRE4. For me RE4R is great because it made it's story better which is still optional (exept that last looooooong walk), but the core gameplay is still in tact just way harder and more addicting.

I don't hate remake4 but og 4 gameplay is unmatched, the replay value is insane, I pretty much beat it across multiple consoles and never once get bored and then there's mercenaries, as if the game wasn't already good, which re5 and re6 I know get hate for but re5/6 mercenaries mode to me is the main game, it is the most fun you will have with those games, that's old school Arcade Capcom fun right there. Basically re5 n 6 did everything right apart from survival horror lol, re4 was always on that borderline for me, the tension you'd get was still there in key moments. I guess it depends on what mood you're in, imo for survival horror Remake Gamecube will always be top dog, but the RE series is just mostly great, anyway good video.

"RE5 was the point the series went into bombast" Leon literally disappears from narrative to come back as a secret service agent cracking action hero one liners, doing backflips, running through lazer rooms (which would be adopted into the worst series of films ever "adapted") fighting a little man that dresses like a victorian lord with his own giant doll version that chases you in quicktime while the main villain says "The American prevailing is a cliche that only happens in your Hollywood movies." Listen I know RE4 was you and a HUGE amount of players' first RE game but it WAS the game that pushed the series into bombast. Before RE4 all the characters were at most regular people who were competent with guns. Leon is never "scared" in the entire game unless you include the anime-esque "fear of failure". Compare it to RE7 or RE8 and even Ethan shows more signs of despair. This game is so far from "survival horror" that it behooves the player to clear out waves of villagers and cultists in order to stock up on ammo and items. It was the first game to break reality with a merchant that sets up shop where ever you go speaking with cockney accent on a Spanish island and invites you to play his shooting mini game while you still have a mission to accomplish. Its a fun arcade game, the best version of House of the Dead ever made.

It's not perfect or even close. The story is sh*t, which has always proved my point that the Japanese can't write horror stories. 1. The U.S. president's daughter was kidnapped. The U.S. doesn't send one person to get her. 2. The country that is harboring this group will either cooperate or be bombed back to the stone age. 3. They had multiple chances to just kill Leon on the spot. But they don't. 4. Leon loses the girl 3 times. 5. They send only one assault chopper to assist and it runs out of ammo???? 6. Why does Las Plagas infect people one way and infect these "higher elites" in another way? Shouldn't it be a consistent infection/parasite? 7. And for the bad guy bosses: What's the point of even being infected when they turn into a huge monster and never go back to human form? How is that enjoyable? 7. Krauser is a stupid character. 8. Early in the game, Leon's equipment is taken from him. But not his radio????? Yes, he has an earpiece. But you still have to transmit and receive with a radio!!!! 9. How come the enemies are able to hit you with punches but Leon is not allowed to punch or kick unless the enemy is stunned? 10. Ada Wong is another stupid character. Resident Evil 4 remake is still fun to play. The story is still sh*t.

Think about it, they not only recovered from the arguably nearly franchise ending Re6...they also successfully "rebooted" the franchise with a game that, IMO, went back to their roots and was genuinely terrifying all the way through, which is pretty rare to find in modern horror games.

Not even close to a masterpiece. Its a very good game but its lacking too much that made the original an epic adventure. *The majority of the bosses are worse almost all around, from story presentation to battle mechanics (Krauser is slightly better but overlong) *The ridiculousness of the setting and story is flattened or removed along with most of the charm *The U3 boss sequence that was pulled out of the main campaign and plopped into purchasable DLC is a disgusting move *The combat is a marked improvement but falls apart in Hardcore mode; its dynamic difficulty punishes skill and promotes an overreliance on RNG *What they added was not better than what they pulled out, even if it is more coherent and sensible, its far less memorable than the original *The Merchant is way too talkative, like running a joke into the ground until it reaches China, type of shit; its like all the quirky charm was stuffed into the merchant to the detriment of the whole vision. Its a very good game. But its not a masterpiece or close to anything the original achieved.
