Someday I will break out the PS2 copy of the game I have somewhere to see if the checkpoint in The Room exists in that version, because I swear I remember having to redo the whole room over and over. Also I misspoke in chat about Professional difficulty: It doesn't carry over your items from a Normal playthrough, but the mode is made slightly easier if you use the 2nd set of alternate costumes because it puts Ashley in the suit of armor. That makes her both invincible and incapable of being carried off by enemies, basically removing the biggest headache of the game so you can focus on your own problems with the difficulty. Also Leon's 2nd costume is the mafia outfit which is basically the coolest outfit in the game.

Amazing that you didn't remember THE ROOM. Its famous/infamous for really showing off the procedural or variable difficulty or whatever they call it. Think God Hand. If you don't remember, RE4 has an internal difficulty curve where the better the player is doing the more difficult a lot of the spawns get. So if you come to that room with a high difficulty modifier then there's going to be a lot of guys there and there will be crossbowmen shooting at you from the balconies. But if you go there with a low difficulty modifier then the spawns are far easier and manageable. I think you went into the room with max difficulty. And that the shield guys, red guy and crossbowmen are all because of the game's internal difficulty modifier. That's also the reason you weren't running into snakes a lot in the first part of the game. The game had set itself on an easier difficulty for you so it wouldn't spawn any snakes to screw you over with. Basically because the game placed those two crossbowmen on the balconies there you can safely assume that the game thinks it should be an appropriate challenge.

I actually had no idea RE4 had a dynamic difficulty system. How does Professional Mode effect the balancing? I didn't think I was doing well enough for the game to consider cranking up the difficulty higher since I had accumulated a number of deaths already.

@@SupaGoGoMan Honestly have no idea how professional mode changes the dynamic difficulty. Way too long since I played it to know. It could also be different between versions for all I know. All I do know is that if you're accurate and don't take too many hits then the game will get harder. And well, since one hit is basically enough to kill Ashley... Maybe professional does just force you to be on the hardest dynamic level or something. But that would mean you've been very lucky with the low amount of snakes around. Either way great job getting past that. The next part is gonna be tough. And then later there's a hedge maze I hate.

I half expected you to quit during that part and then start up a new save, all while yelling at Leon to speed run about how he must go fast and that he is too slow.
