If you removed all the references to the games, T-Virus, Umbrella, change the Licker's design, movie title, etc; then this could have been a pretty good, stand alone zombie movie. As much as I hate them for just using characters whenever it feels like, the first one was really entertaining. After that, it just went downhill, really fast.

I agree. Still remember seeing this in theaters when I was in the 12th grade, and it was pretty entertaining. And it is the best out of all 6 (or was it 7?) RE films. But regardless, it is still a generic zombie movie. The Resident Evil title was the only thing that got people interested. Including myself. people who lose their memory don't lose their knowledge of how to perform skills they've learned. As skills are stored differently in the brain, this is why someone with amnesia can still speak the language they were taught as a child. It can be said that a patient with Alzheimer did the same puzzle everyday for certain weeks and new the solution despite not remembering ever doing the puzzle. Alice would remember martial arts and how to fire a weapon perfectly fine, in theory.
@mish3754 жыл бұрын
Correct. There are two primary memory storage types: declarative and procedural. Declarative Memory would be remembering events, your identity, who your relatives and friends are, etc., which is what Alice lacks here due to the nerve gas. Procedural Memory focuses on skills you've learned and is stored elsewhere in the brain. Things like reading, writing, language, the ability to speak, and special training would fall into this category. Alice demonstrates the first 4 almost immediately, then the last one later in the film when she's threatened.

In the game, the infection is slow, and painful in a way, as you loose your sanity, your body starts changing and decaying, then you die and your body is reanimated, or, depending on the virus you mutate, at least that's how some T-virus strains work, other strains, such as the Phobos strain are fast acting.

The reason behind some of the zombies you see during the initial siege being damaged and missing parts off faces is because if you look closely at the Umbrella employees in the elevator before the girl gets decapitated you'll see that those employees are the first zombies you see. They are all damaged because of the elevator crash. Look closely at the faces, hair, and clothes. I actually thought it was quite clever that those particular zombies were the only ones that looked that way. Same idea as the kennel keeper zombie who appears to have been attacked by the escaped infected dogs.
@teriosshadow172 жыл бұрын
I personally believe those people in the elevator would've been crushed to bits in elevator crash than turn into zombies. Also, how are they even able to walk after several stories fall in elevator. Its a nice theory though.
@teriosshadow172 жыл бұрын
Also how do you explain the guy holding an axe? He wasn't in the elevator, but drowned in the water flooding in a sealed room.
@stevevanderslice22442 жыл бұрын
As far as the zombie with the axe is concerned I'm thinking that the idea is rigor mortis. Rigor mortis is a temporary phase taking place in the muscles approximately 4-8 hours after death. This occurs when adenosine triphosphate converts into adenosine diphosphate at a cellular level as the blood is no longer carrying oxygen throughout the body, however this is not permanent. This results in the muscles stiffening and as a result if you die holding something it may be moderately difficult to remove. Environmental conditions also play a factor such as ambient temp, age, condition of cadaver and cause of death. There is also the possibility that it's a silly zombie movie.

Hey Deus, great review man. This was actually the review that got me to subscribe to your channel. Also, I actually applaud you for recognizing Jason Isaacs doing the voiceover at the beginning, not many people picked up on that. Did you also realize he made an additional cameo at the end as the scientist who ordered the hive reopened? I actually found out his character was supposed to be Dr. William Birkin, which, all those years ago, made me excited to see the sequel at the prospect of such a talented actor taking the reins as one of the most prominent villains turned monsters in the games, because I thought he'd nail it. Sadly thanks to Anderson and his obsessiveness to make the films more a vehicle for his wife to be shown off, it got thrown by the wayside, which was sad considering the two had worked together before on Event Horizon. It makes me hope that if the rumors of the films being rebooted, closer to the games are true, someone might remember him and offer him the role. And also, I can't wait to see you tear The Final Chapter to shreds. That piece of shit made almost every other inconsistency in the other films look like a damn cakewalk.

It made complete sense that the bodies disappeared because the zombies were not shot in the head, so the zombies got back up and/or crawled away. The team probably aimed mostly for the chest/gut region, hense a whole lot of zombies that didn't get put down permanently. (I think you even mentioned there were no headshots in this scene). I don't think the disappearing bodies was meant to be a video game reference at all. I think it was just meant to alert the characters yet again that they were dealing with something not human. Especially since they assumed they were all just crazy survivors at first, and they were still trying to wrap their heads around what was happening.

Has anybody done a parody of this yet? person getting bitten on their hand wearing nice normal clothes, then the second they turn their clothes turn to rags and bite wounds and tears appear all over their skin as if they've been dead for months, as that seems to be what happens when the T-Virus infects you. At that rate the zombies from this virus would waste away to nothing in a few days, unless it's weirdly programmed to massively accelerate decay by months, then stop.

After having thought about it a while... I might have an explanation for the elevator scene. The AI was killing everyone ALREADY infected. The people in the elevator hadn't been infected yet... until they opened the door and the lady stuck her head out. Once out and infected... time to drop the elevator.
@deusdeaconReviews2 жыл бұрын
doesn't really explain why the other elevator dropped before they did, and also assumes the elevator has a completely airtight and independent air supply from the rest of the complex, so it is a big ask to say the least.
@XxTaiMTxX2 жыл бұрын
@@deusdeaconReviews I think it's shown that the other elevator was still open and "loading" in the scene before. I don't think the elevators were "air tight", but I think it's "exposure to the hall outside" that was the problem. The elevator shaft itself likely didn't have the virus in it yet. But, opening the elevator to the hallway invited the virus in. I came to the conclusion I did because the AI wasn't systematically killing the people "all at once". Different areas were affected at different times. Seeing what we do of the AI, it can definitely kill everyone all at once in the facility if it wants. The movie itself is a very inconsistent mess with the AI doing nonsensical stuff (if it knew the virus reanimated the dead, why was it killing people? Why wouldn't it herd them all into an area for quarantine instead?). But, for some reason the elevator scene kept bothering me. I think the intent was to "lend credence" to what the AI tells us later: "An uncontrolled pattern of infection began, so I killed them to prevent further spread". Or, something to that effect. The whole murder spree is shown in "pieces". Each set of people affected at different times. Why wouldn't both elevators be dropped at once? A scene from the inside of a falling elevator would've been just as terrifying as a cut away from a head smashing. The only thing I could come up with was that "the elevator didn't start falling until the door opened". I mean, everyone in the hallway was killed by the gas. Couldn't the AI have just let them into the hallway to hit them with that again? Instead, the door opens, the person spends several seconds poking their head into the corridor... then the elevator falls suddenly. I think it's meant to imply that exposure to the virus is why the AI killed people. It wasn't just killing everyone regardless of exposure or not. It was ONLY killing those exposed. We even see this later when the AI is asking Alice to kill Rodriguez. It asks for the death of nobody else, just her. It will let the rest leave. It was only killing people who were infected. Even our villain that is killed by a Licker was "infected". The AI let him die because he was infected. As much of a mess as the movie is, I think the consistency of the AI is probably the only sane part of the whole movie.
@deusdeaconReviews2 жыл бұрын
that is a lot of stuff and I can tell you now its far more effort to explain a famously inconsistent series than it deserves, its really not worth helping bad writing, at least not for free

@@deusdeaconReviews Not saying I disagree it's bad writing. But, for me, the elevator scene is one of the few CONSISTANT things about the first movie. At least, if we're just delving in the actions of the AI. The AI being the most consistent character of the entire movie on top of which. I think at first glance, the elevator scene seems like a huge plot hole and inconsistent. But, having thought about it for a while and with repeated viewings of your video, it dawned on me WHY it happens. This is an insight born YEARS AFTER the movie was even released. So, you know... even if it makes sense, it's still terrible writing because it's never made obvious or even inferred in any way.

So when Alice needed to fight and got a gun in her hand, her instincts and muscle memory took over.

Why is the part before that killing everybody who has something that turns them into zombies? 3. Why isn't the containment mass immolation of the entire facility? 4. Why hire people who know absolutely nothing about whats going on to go in who will clearly just fuck everything up instead of people who know what they are doing? I mean I can't remember the end but if they tried the "it was a test wooo" that makes no sense to an extreme as why would you do a test in such an unsafe way when they have giant facilities for testing? 5. Why is the computer an AI? wouldn't it have made more sense to have a normal computer you could then interact with after the incident and watch what is happening? maybe just send in some normal people like any other horror film who they knock out? 6. Why on earth was there plan for the last line of defence to give them amnesia? I mean why wouldn't you just kill them... what possible benefit is there to making them lose their memory for a few hours instead of being awake to defend the entrance or dead if you think they had something to do with it, and if it was because they wanted to question them if they think they had something to do with it why wouldn't they tell the team going in to capture them and leave somebody to guard them? And thats just off the top of my head from what I remember, I just don't have a single clue what Umbrella was going for here... Did Keith Ledgers Joker take over running Umbrella in this version of the Resident Evil reality?

Havent seen this since i watched it the day it came out in theaters. I was obsessed with the games and saw the movie announcement in the re2 ps1 disk case. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. This entire series was fucking dumb

Here is a mystery for you. Rains was normal looking at the start, she turns into a zombie and her teeth instantly change to look like a 90 year old man who never brushed his teeth. hmm
