I really did enjoy this game but it desperately requires some quality of life updates like auto aim option, a small nerf to most enemies and HUGE bug fixes. I cut out most of the horrible bugs and issues so hopefully yall can still enjoy. I think if this game gets some decent sized updates it could possibly be one of the best but for now its just sort of a buggy mess.

The music is fantastic, love the enemy variety, the animations of selecting which key you want to use off the key ring is really cool too. Lots of neat details. I guess I'm getting old. It makes me sad that people keep comparing this to Resident Evil, when it is an obvious love letter to the original Alone in the Dark series of PC games. It plays almost identical to those games, from the massive enemy variety, to the strange dreamlike setting. Everything about this game reminds me of AinD in a very good way.

I'm rewatching this after me playing the game now. I died so many times that I got fed up and looked up a video on how to do it. I didn't notice the little bits on the ends that hook onto the other pieces. I had forgotten most of what bawk went through so when I saw him go through that glitch I was a tad jealous lmao

@bawkbasoup apparently they had to cut some content to meet the release deadline but they plan to have it added by the end of the year. They're also going to add multiple endings, more weapons, dresses, NG+ etc.

This game is dripping with late 90s charm and nostalgia. The music, the environments, the story, and my favorite, the puppet are all so damn cool 😎 If I would have known this was a crowd funded project I definitely would have been onboard. Thank you bawk for the introduction and thank you devs for a super cool game. P.S.- how can you go wrong with a survival-horror game where you can use a saber and a blunderbuss!?! Awesome!

I'm gonna have to buy this game, I love me some retro style games. I noticed when you killed the dollmaster, he had the merchant puppet in his hand. I'm certain there are more endings in this game, as there was more to explore. Great playthrough

Definitely the best RE clone I've ever seen, and they really do nail a lot of the PS1 aesthetics. The blatant fanservice is entertaining and also reinforces the PS1-era idea, since "get the chick in a swimsuit" was often a bonus reward or easter egg in older games. Clearly needed a bit more time in the oven, though, judging by the bugs and some design flaws. I think enemies being fast is fine, but fast enemies combined with a lack of quick-turn is a huge no-no. I think lacking autoaim is *probably* fine as long as you get quickturn, since you get the indicator if your shot will hit. The game is also pretty generous with health and ammo, and being able to stunlock monsters and apparently even some bosses with the sword compensates somewhat. Honestly, I think if you were doing repeat playthroughs, most of those monsters are skippable and wouldn't even be hard to skip. Their tracking and accuracy seemed to be lacking in a lot of cases, and many of them had incredibly long startup animations for their attacks. I guess that's perfectly in line with RE1, where Jill especially basically skips the entire game.

Absolutely. I’m enjoying the game but the combat is really stopping me from loving it like I loved tormented souls. It either needs auto aim, slower enemies or a more intuitive way of knowing if you’re actually hitting things or not

2 years later and I'm finally playing this. From what i read, that giant doll in the black dress was originally just a jump scare but now she is a pursuer enemy that randomly appears in rooms and can't be killed. It would have been great if you got to deal with that nemesis type enemy.

Hey Bawk, on the off chance you read comments, I just wanted to say a few words. This VOD brings back memories. I was in a really BAD spot the night you uploaded this to KZbin. I was physically unwell and my mental state wasn’t that great either, to top it off I was trying to sleep for even just a little respite and had major trouble getting to sleep on this night (like many others I consider your streams great ASMR). At first I could hardly focus on the gameplay, but your commentary and positive exploratory attitude about this mildly buggy game was infectious. You were taking me (and chat) on a vivid journey of unknowns. I was in and out of consciousness and I just recall waking up to different rooms with progressively weirder and weirder lore/enemies, when it got close to the end - I would rewind back to the parts I missed (which became a cycle). I watched your v2 retry a few months ago as well and while it brought back some not-so-great memories, it made better ones too. Thank you for doing what you do and gifting us with your talent - you’re genuinely one of the best streamers out there.

The game could use some work. There are no player I frames, so when an enemy spams attacks, you just get locked. If you get hit once, you're basically done for.

55 minutes in and this is going to be a no for me. Unless they slow down the enemies, speed up reload animations, and add auto aim this is going to be a pretty easy pass for me. It's like the developer never got any feedback during development. If it wants to be like old school RE add god damn auto aim. Bugs I can live with, bad game design I can not.

The first RE didn’t have auto aim :-) that is actually on the list of things to add, along with an alternate control scheme for those confused by tank-controls. The difficulty is supposed to be balanced down with the shop items so there is still some balancing to be done.

@@Sonicstillpoint83 God, I made a fucking essay. TL;DR The original RE game did have auto aim originally and it was removed because greed. Working the balance around the shop will not help with the issues I have. Since they are not tied to the shop but to enemy design. Finally, stop implementing awful features just because that's how it was in the 90's. We stopping doing them for a reason. If you want to create a game inspired visually with the old 90's horror games. Improve on them. Why would I play a worst game inspired by games in the 90's when I could be playing better games from the god damn 90's. If you want to read my full opinion read ahead. You are correct, the first RE US/EU release didn't have auto aim. However the Japanese version did and so did the Director's Cut revision. Since the Japanese version was released first that can be taken as how the game was meant to be played. Every game after the OG RE 1 has an auto aim option. This should be taken as they learned their mistake instead of it supposed to be like that. It's 2021 not the 90's, we should take what mistakes were made in the past and learn from them to create better experiences. I think the game looks wonderful and when most of the kinks get ironed out I'll get it. I think just balancing the game around the shop will not fix the issues I have with this game. My problem isn't with the shop balance but unfair enemy design. The player has no breathing room to reload and aim. You have to cheese the enemy ai to get those chances since they attack so frequently and move so fast. It's not challenging, it's frustrating and tedious. As Jud Crandell says - "Sometimes dead is better." and game design decisions that were awful in the 90's should not be welcomed today. We should take what was good about them and disregard what didn't work.
