I think it’s important to know that bidding styles can be more different among windows cleaners then window cleaning technique. Do your research for your area as well, it will take time to organize an efficient way for you to do bids.

Hey SteveO, who do you ask to speak to specifically when you go in for a bid? I’m trying to get started but I was told by a bank that I need to be a vendor.

Something I've only run into a few times is that customer that calls you out to give an estimate three or four times over the years, but doesn't go with you. One, I told them I will not serve them at all. Another, when she had me come out for the third estimate, I noticed that every single window was scratched so severely, you could see the scratches through the heavy dirt from over 100 ft away. She probably saved $100 on the last window "washer." I bumped the price way up and put in writing that the windows have preexisting severe scratches. I also let her know that sometimes it costs a lot more to save a dollar. 🤷‍♂️ and told her that this will be the last time I offer her a free estimate. Thing was, I cleaned her neighbors windows 3-4 times a year and they were extremely pleased with my work and let her know. Sometimes you can't fix stupid; but you can charge for it.

For sure!!! I felt like a loser in the beginning when I would waste my time doing estimate for no work. When I had this first happen to me what a feeling of accomplishment knowing all the hours I spent learning back when KZbin videos where just wagtail guys cutting channel ends ABC talking about proper technique using the unger squeegee on a stationary piece of glass.

When I started window washing 6 years ago I was in high school and was taught by my father who washed when he was in high school and college. He taught me $2 per pane outside and inside 😂. I was busy everyday for the summer just from referrals and realized a couple summers later how cheap I was lol

@obadahmed7638 I personally made sure I had my business license, insurance, company name, brand/logo, shirts, business cards, brochures, and top of the line traditional and water fed equipment before starting my first job. When I posted this comment, I actually didn't get the bid because of how unprofessional I did it. Walked in with my dirty work clothes on and handed him a bid written on the back of a piece of paper... Pretty embarrassing when I think about it. So I did some more research on how to present myself, binge watched/listened to WCR nation with Jersey, and have been following SteveOs techniques since. As an industrial/commercial electrician who's constantly surrounded by hectic environments, I very much appreciate my downtime cleaning windows as a side gig. And I love how little overhead it requires to get started when on a budget. Yet has a great selection of top of the line tools for dudes like me, and believe me when I say I love expensive tools. Good luck out there man, the window cleaning community is one of the best out there. Hope that answers your question and more. 🇺🇸💪💯🪟⚡️

I charge $5 dollars per pane inside and $5 per pane outside. So a double hung window for me would be $20. I charge $2 for tracks and $3 for screens. I know it might seem high priced but most houses I come to the windows are so darn dirty because they haven’t been washed for 6 to 15 years or possibly even never… I also always remove debris

Bro!! Your in Colorado too! Im in springs and launched my window cleaning business in 2021. It came after a decade of seeing my grandpa and aunts window cleaning success. My grandpa actually still runs his part time back home in South Dakota after nearly 30 years. Your perspective has helped me tremendously you nailed it at the end of the video! It is s luxury service and they sre obviiusly calling us bc they dont want to get up on a ladder. Ive been getting frustrated lately on a few bids. That I felt were fair. Im usually liw end $5 - $15/pane high end. Again this helped pick up my spirits a bit. Ive gotten the either verbal or non verbal overall "Wow your high priced response." As you said its a luxury service. Im slowly learning my worth. Although I still negotiate and do come down. Im Getting better though, Thanks again.

Man, I couldn’t help but be astonished. I love how in depth, but honestly Stevo, I definitely think your worth more! You can come clean my windows and pay you 2x all that. My company definitely charges a lot more. We do get some people who complain it’s a lot. But also it’s a luxury service and I have to pay my guys a living wage. Blue collar labor in my area is super low so people mostly understand.

It's saddens me that other companies clean windows for 25.00 on a bid I gave for 75.00 So a month after my bid I got the 75.00 job bc they couldn't get ahold of their old window washer. And I was shown there invoice.... when I figure my price I add to my final total I give customer bc I'm the best around my area. The estimate I didn't win 3yrs ago have called me to clean their windows and well that estimate is not correct I give my price I value my time why I'm still going 7yrs later

Great advice! Also, first I’ve seen that give solid numbers. Agree with everything you said. I used to price windows individually but over the years can walk around around a house and get a good idea of time to do it. I bid shooting for $40-50 hour. I also charge a full day even if I may be there 2/3 of a day. It is a luxury service, if you are really detailed and have pride, the customers will love you no matter price point. I honestly rather get off a day from work than underbid my time. Aloha SteveO

Worst thing you can do is go broke while working hard, Make sure you're getting payed what the job is worth and be ready to walk away when someone else tries to tell you that your price is too high. It's one thing to negotiate a bit, it's quite another when the "Client" wants you to work for nothing.

Great advice, bidding correctly takes time!! There’s days I walk away from a job thinking that was an awesome bid and there’s other days not so much. We have two different individuals in the town we service that charge 1/2 what we do if not less and it’s taken it’s toll on the commercial market, not quite as bad on residential!! It’s Frustrating when you bid a place and they say the other guy was half.....ok then why did you call us for a bid🤔🤷🏼‍♂️
@SteveOthewindowcleaner
@SteveOthewindowcleaner 3 жыл бұрын
Yea, a large town that I service has some of the lowest bidding companies around, I have recently been working there more with the new company. And I find that my bids in that town are taken as an insult lol Did a huge bid a couple weeks ago, same prices if I have used before, I even thought I underbid it and was worried about getting it and the guy said he would not accept an amount that high for a window cleaning service lol

I think a lot of people don't like bidding because they don't want to lose the job, and also don't want to underbid themselves. It takes a long time to learn that winning 50% of solid bids is far better than 90% of low bids.

Thanks for your response Vcash97 been cleaning windows for 35 years I'd like to share this with you. To get around that, explain a window bid for windows, screens and light clean (( Meaning towel it makes it look ok )) If they want a brand new perfectly clean track that's ok to expect if it's dust and the windows have been serviced on a yearly basis. Most people will say that's cool etc.. no big deal just make things lok nice. Now there are people who've ((NEVER EVER)) Had a track cleaned, and they have mold, dirt, I had a guy who had a tree growing in a window track after I took the curtain and showed him he was shocked. So they are looking for the 1 person who will actually clean nasty tracks because the cleaning maid's janitorial cleaners won't, other window cleaners won't, so they are stuck! NOTE

Thanks for the continued content, Steve! I remember my first big job was a 2 story with 6 huge windows in the rear walk out. I WFP'd the exterior but when I came inside I was greeted by wooden mutton's on the outside of the glass. They were held in place by small clips and clipped off like one big tic-tac-toe frame. Not fun to remove/install when you're on a ladder 20 feet up working hands free. I believe they were Eagle brand windows. Beware!

Never heard of so many different services for window cleaning Jacksonville Florida here we wash windows clean the tracks out with a toothbrush and a shop vac and clean the screens by hand all for $2.25 a pain and for track and screen. Big windows and sliding glass doors are $5 each side. French windows are $8 each side for doors. sounds like you guys are making a killing wherever you’re at good for you guys. Florida is a very diluted market though. Good luck guys. Ps just in case anybody’s wondering it does not matter how high the window is up. the price is always the same. In and outside side of one window for residential is generally $9 a window. There is no right and wrong for prices everybody does their own thing. Good luck guys

A little confused on pricing. I'm a little old school who is starting up my business again in a new area. Not used to having minimums. Let's say you add up the windows and it doesn't equal to your minimum. Are you adding on to the minimum price or do you just keep the price at the minimum? Thanks for all that you do! Business cards are nice, but a solid website will pay off multiples over time. Paying for a google ad really helped me get off the ground in the beginning and once I had reviews, etc. the calls just keep coming. Do good work and don’t forget to look at the finished window from across the room as you walk out. You will see streaks, etc from a distance and the customer will as well.

Do you charge the customer more if you take out and put the screen back in? Or just a $2 flat rate?

I am a little confused. Maybe because I am not very good in English. In charging cleaning windows I am charging for cleaning only outside the mirror, let's say 5 dollars, and from inside another 5 dollars plus the track if needed another let's say 2 dollars? Always depends on the size of the window and the shape.

It's kinda funny to see the big differende in pricing around the globe. In denmark, most of us establish a price pr glass pane. Then ofcourse the size of the glass, decides the price. But pretty commonly for a "normal sized" glass would be 4-8 dkk. (1 usd is around 7 dkk)

Steve O , cool I see your a jujitsu man. Quick question. I’m a carpet guy but was asked to do windows at the college I clean at. Mainly the Presidents house. Three story. I clean the inside windows, do you charge per side. Second question, I have been asked to clean the outside ones now. What is the best water feed pole set up for just one account that I do once a year

Thanks a lot, this was a great video bc if you had never work for a window cleaning Co. you don’t know how much you should charge and probably no window cleaner will tell you or teach you to bid. Also I have a Question, I’m from New England área and we have tons of old house(100-200 even +300 years old) with original Windows and storms shutters how much should I charge for those windows? Some professional told just not taking those jobs but I’m starting this years and every Job count to me

I have the supplies to start window cleaning but I’m just afraid because I’m not sure if I need a licence or insurance to actually do people’s homes. I’m 16 years old and I’m interested in the entrepreneurial world of business. All love and thanks for the info❤

Hey, for window cleaning you do not need a license like a doctor but I do suggest creating an LLC or SCORP and getting general liability insurance. Accidents happen so make sure you’re covered

And down here in South Florida I never take time to send them a formal estimate that's itemized it's an agreement and handshake.. no contracts save your ass in case you ever do mess something up. Just be fair and honest and willing to work with the customer I've always gotten tiped well. But honestly white painted French doors or windows with oxidation on windows has created smeers and caused me problems. Still learning
