I agree w/ you! Before the alcohol was spritzed, I was not a huge fan, but you let the resin do what it does best! So pretty!!! I get my resin and mold today, so I’ll definitely try this! ❤❤

Wont the cutting mess up the epoxy and get tomy flakes in youre food?
@Luxinda
@Luxinda Жыл бұрын
These are intended more for decoration than actual food prep. Or you could use it to display items that have wrappers (cookies, cupcakes), etc. But generally even if the resin were a super-hard variety that's considered food compliant, it would still show scratches if any actual cutting were done on it, so it's not recommended.

How long do u wait before u pour into mould? When I do it my swirls blend and looks very different in a few hours
@Luxinda
@Luxinda Жыл бұрын
Great question! The resin will thicken up over time, so the longer you wait, the less blending will have a chance to happen. Also, there are different resins with different viscosities and work times. I hate to not give you a definitive answer, but you'll need to do some experimenting with whatever resin you have, mix it with different colorants, let it sit for different amounts of time, and see what you get. But, yes, in general, if you start pouring right away, you will get much more blending than if you wait 15 minutes, 20 minutes, etc., till the resin thickens up.

Can I use this board as a cutting board or is it just deocration.
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 11 ай бұрын
Great question! There are some hard resins that are FDA compliant, and in fact some are used to make entire kitchen countertops. However, the resin maybe wouldn’t stand up to a knife. So in general I would consider it more for display, but that could include displaying food on it. I’m just not sure about actually cutting on it. The best way to get a more definitive answer is to decide what resin you’ll use, then contact the manufacturer and ask them directly about cutting on it. Thanks for the comment!

Did you ever film putting the final layer on your cutting board? I have a Sea scene I’m trying to do the same thing. Did it work? What were the issues? Thanks
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 2 жыл бұрын
You know what, I don't think I ever did, although I meant to. I imagine the issue(s) would be if I tried to apply a final layer after pushing the board back into the mold, there could be seepage around the edges. I don't *think* it would be bad, but if it seeped underneath and made the other side look strange, that would be hard to fix. The other option is putting it up on cups or something then trying to dome it, which is a real PITA. So I'd probably try it in the mold anyway, just to find out if it works or not... I'm sorry I can't be more help! If you do finish yours somehow, come back and let me know what happened, please!

What pink did you use. It's beautiful.
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 жыл бұрын
There were a couple pinks. The pink mica was just labeled “pink” and came in a Resin & More subscription box, so I have no link to offer for getting ahold of more. The pink that was a combo of foil and alcohol ink was Pretty in Pink alcohol ink from Woodes Goodies (www.woodesgoodies.com/products/pretty-in-pink?_pos=1&_sid=1e0857ec3&_ss=r ) and some pink foil from the same Resin & More subscription box (so no link for that either). Sorry I can’t be more helpful!

As an actual cutting board? Personal choice. Most folks make them to hang or display as decoration. You could also display any wrapped food on them without concern.

Hey. I'm new to resin art, so why did you spray the resin with alcohol at the end before leaving it to dry?
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! That is the easiest way I’ve found to get rid of bubbles, and since no heat is involved like when using a heat gun, lighter, torch, etc, the silicone mold doesn’t run the risk of getting damaged. Hope this helps!!

@Luxinda

@@rosemarshall4986 I’ve found it pops air bubbles in the resin a lot better than using a heat gun or torch.

I do resin. Is it safe to actually cut on the board ?
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. Technically only if the top layer --the layer that someone would be cutting on -- is an FDA-compliant resin and completely clear, no colors or any other type of additive. Then it's supposed to be okay. People actually get entire countertops made of resin then prep food on it. On the other hand, you'll probably find all sorts of people who tell you it's not safe under any circumstance. So I guess it's one of those deals where research into the safety sheets of whatever resin you're using is your best course of action so you feel safe about it.

What does the spritz of alcohol do?

Pops bubbles, so there’s no need to use heat which could damage the mold.

Why do you spritz it with alcohol?
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 жыл бұрын
That's the easiest way to pop bubbles - no heat necessary that might damage the mold and much quicker than using a long-neck lighter over every inch of the exposed resin.

I wonder if possible, you could use a glass or h.d clear plastic cutting board and put the resin on the bottom to make it safe to eat on?
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could, yes. I never make anything like this with the intention of getting it anywhere near food. If someone really wants a resin-decorated cutting board, the way to go (imo) is to start with a normal wooden cutting board and decorate just the handle or the handle and another small section of the board with resin, leaving most of the wood untouched so it can still be used safely with food. Everything I do like this -- making a tray, making a cake stand, etc., is never intended for food use. Thanks!

>> Is KSRESIN FDA Compliant? >>Our products are FDA compliant, though we personally do not recommend using an epoxy resin coating to replace a serving tray, cutting board, or coating the inside of a cup. Are your pieces for display only?
@Deangirl86

I think most (if not all) epoxies that are FDA compliant STILL recommend not to use their product as a serving tray or inside of a cup.
