I think lots of people, especially kids, get really attached to character concepts they’re familiar with and don’t want them to change because they know they like that character and the thought of someone changing it is like “but what if they change it into something I don’t like?” and they think that’s going to make them like the character less, so they’re apprehensive to change. However, reimagining is a really great way to explore creative outlets and defamiliarization actually really helps understand what’s really working and what’s not working for a character. Overall, I think your transformation of Nezuko is absolutely gorgeous! There are elements that are key to this character still very much living in this design but with a new flare to it in your style. It’s lovely work! If anyone is upset about how you changed the character, it’s likely more because of their personal fears about a character they love so much being made into something they’re wary about exploring rather than any negative commentary on your skills or imagination. I think once people see what you’ve done, they’re going to change their minds and realize this is the character they love just seen through a different lens :)) Excellent work! Loved seeing your process and the final result was stunning!!
