Hi all you resin artists; I am slightly off topic but see people going strait to sanding after epoxy cures. One big topic missed most of these videos is amine blush, of course until someone gets a bad blush problem then they make a video. Amine blush is a common topic in boat building and there is a lot of info on the web; not so much knowledge in the art, surfboard building industry. So, when doing a second coat or any top coat over epoxy, always wash your previous coat of epoxy with hot water(after its fairly cured), plain dish soap and an abrasive pad (scotch brite white) before sanding your epoxy for a re-coat(super easy). Even if it is non blushing epoxy as they can blush a bit in humid conditions. Amine blush is a waxy water soluble coating that happens when epoxy cures, especially if you pour in a high humidity situation, so keep an eye on weather or use heat lamps, heater or light bulbs to lower relative humidity around your project. Alcohol or solvents do not remove blush. Blush can be visible but can also be invisible or subtle. Sanding before washing rubs the blush into the surface and can prevent a good bond and possibly clouding or fish eyes. If temps drop to the dew point the blush can get into the cured epoxy rather than on top so check your weather. I only know about this from my one really bad experience and since then no problems. Epoxy is not cheap so get out the hot soapy water between coats. Sand and then wipe down your project with acetone or denatured alcohol to remove contaminants. Let dry then re-coat; acetone drys faster. I wait 1/2 hour or smell the surface. If you smell acetone or alcohol it's not dry and can cause fish eyes. Once wiped down alway put on rubber gloves. The oils on your skin can cause fish eyes that may not disappear using a torch. Cheers, JW

Hi Sheri, thanks for this video. I had a quick question, when I do a quick top coat (flood coat) of resin on a tray (which was flat and even) it made the tray uneven and wobbly as if it rose from the sides. Any idea as to why it is happening? I cant seems to find answers anywhere.

Hello, I have a resin art piece with pits in it. I have only poured one layer that’s thinner than 1/8”. The layer has gold and colored lacing effects and beautiful patterns. If I try to pour a second layer to get rid of the pits, will I end up sanding away my pretty gold parts and the lacing effects? Thank you
@sherivegasartist3 жыл бұрын
Natasha Lombard you just give it a light sand not enough to take back layers

@@laylad9235 I do what she did in this video. Sometimes it helps, but I' tired of having to pour twice. I thoroughly clean beforehand, with gloves on, a have actually poured some perfect ones right away. My luck is still not great

Hello everyone , I am guessing, even after doing another cost you guys were not getting flat clean cured surface, i recommend go sanding according to the size of your imperfections and just buff afterwards

Alcohol evaporates away, vinegar is going to leave sticky residue unless you follow up with distilled water

I need help. I did everything you said and still got new dimples or dents in different places. I’m so frustrated. I did do it in my n garage so wondering if natural dust in there or heat could cause it? I’m going to try one more time but in doors and thinking about using a different brand. Could a cheaper brand cause it? Is it ok to use a different brand?

Same!!! Did u ever figure out how to fix it? I need help
@kawtulu30522 жыл бұрын
@@laylad9235 I used long pieces of cardboard that I custom cut to fit underneath the canvas (in between the wood) to lift the canvas so that the resin rolls off instead of pooling. I also tilt the canvas instead of using any tool to move the resin so it spreads evenly. I leave the resin in warm water (inside a container) for a few minutes before pouring so that the resin moves around more freely.

The list keeps going I've never had something be both absolutely beautiful and so disappointing at the same time. I've made the bracelets, rings, and pendants , plain with nothing in them, with glow in the dark powder, metal objects like tiny keys and gears, tiny sea shells, and even sprinkles! They look amazing! They come out of the molds hard and perfect.. but when I wear them the body heat makes them bendy, and flexible.. I live in Mississippi, so I can't really avoid the heat.. arghh anyway.. thanks for any help you can think of
