I do that by putting carbide on big piece of glass. Doing kind of 8 motion. What is good with this procedure is u choose the grit of carbide and make your lap "eating more or less." I might be wrong, but it work for me 👍🏻

With that method, one must be careful not to dome the lap.

Hi John, great video! I just got an 800 dreamer after watching your videos, it works great, quite fast and a good finish. It is causing orange peel in synthetic ruby, but that's a different story... I wanted to ask for the link of the flatenning stone, as my lap suffers the same problem as the one you are showing. Thanks in advance!

couldn't i dop the flattening stone and use the 45° adapter of my ultratec to be sure to have a flat suface? (I would 3d print a holder that can screw itself on the motor arbor to have a setup comparable to your buket). Like this I could just spin the lap and press the stone

The flattening stone is way to large and heavy, and the UT equipment has way too much flex. You would likely damage the UT if you tried this.
