My dad did almost the same thing in North Africa in WW2 . He did not kill them but took them for information . With a few others they would move out at night to find German Pickets . He would say in German if you want to live make no sound walk backward to my voice . They would jump up and put a knife to their throat gag an tie them up and return back their line to get information . He almost never talked about the war but the few times he did he has a reason . This time was to help me with fear of the dark . He told me you can be afraid of the dark or you can be the reason others are afraid of the dark . I was no longer afraid of the dark .

Since he was bilingual in English and Yiddish he translated for the Army medical staff when they liberated the camps. If you'd have asked him he'd just say, "We had a job to do and we did it."

actually the most noble French resistance group I heard off was a bunch of Trotskists (anti-Stalinist Communists basically). Instead of killing the occupying German soldiers they recruited some of them to their cause. That takes a lot more courage then stabbing someone in the depth of night. It also must take a lot of idealism and love. They published an underground anti-war/socialist newspaper together with these Germans for about a year. Eventually they got over confident from what I heard. They organized a protest by German soldiers somewhere in the Bretagne. Got too much attention and eventually they were found out. The French members of this group were send to the death camps, the Germans they had recruited were shot.

These guys are so brave to give details on camera - their faces,& details of how civilians move & plot. I can’t image having to change my mindset & heart in such a fashion of survival & actually protecting other civilians & countrymen in these ways. While it’s just a regular California Black Friday & Christmas tree decorating for me & mines. Such WWII vibes of resistance stories now known in movies & more. You need to take into account that fighting russians IS our mindset. We've been attacked by them for centuries. We've been enslaved by them (my great grandma was a slave). We've been deported to Siberia and Kazakhstan. Our books, churches, entire villages were burnt down. Famines, massacres. And all of that is not just 20th, 19th centuries. All of that is pretty much last millennia for us. It's not a problem with putin, it's not a problem with USSR, or the empire they used to be. It's way more general. So it's not that we somehow changed out of nowhere to fight them. It's just another time for us. Nothing new (strategies, weapons are, of course, but the fact that we are attacked for being Ukrainians is not new).

But let's not go all the way to rewrite history and draw a line between the good Ukrainians victims of the bad Russians for a millennia. This is wrong, misleading and far too simple. History is complex, Ukrainians and Russians are interlinked by a common past and you know it (Kievan Rus). And you just have to go back to WW2 to see that the Ukrainians and Bandera massacring the Poles in Volhynia or hunting the Jews were no victims or heroes. This is also the history you would prefer to hide. There is no bad or good sides in history. Especially over an entire millennia. Not all Ukrainians are innocent victims. Not all Russians are bloodthirsty murderers.

In times of war, the topic of civilians taking actions in order to kill, to do sabotage, etc, is interesting. They are heroes for some, and terrorists for others. The civilians attacking and killing US troops in Iraq, or the Afghans against NATO troops would also be heroes I assume? Or maybe terrorists? The thing is that civilians taking actions against an occupant are well documented according to international law. They're not protected and are legit targets for the invading forces. This is written black on white in the Geneva convention. So yes, international law doesn't care about the killings being legit or not. They're either murderers, or resistants, or heroes, or terrorists. Depends on who you are and how you're concerned. But at the end of the day it's the same, they kill other people.

If you study winterwars you learn that they consider it a valid tactic, terrorize the enemy behind the lines, that takes pressure of the front because the enemy (russia) has to protect the rear of the front too. And going guerillia is never "easy" if you get caught no army will give you POW status or hold an trial about you,. they will kill you on the spot.

After escaping from a gas chamber which wasn’t working properly at Dachau my great grandfather killed a camp guard with his shirt and escaped before tracking across Germany and France to safety. While on the way he killed many enemies and always felt proud of what he did. He eventually escaped across the Pyrenees. Partisans are heroes.

Yes they are doing air strikes in Ukraine but they don't wanna harm the civilians but meant to target infrastructures key to winning the war. It just so happens that some of the missiles the Ukrainians destroy mid air using their defense systems would occasionally land on the civilians, and Western media calls it ear crimes for purposely targeting civilians.

Oddly, he looks and sounds just like a lovely 19 yr old Russian fellow I met and worked/partied with in Thailand. Peter was planning to make overalls to sell. We went rock climbing together and spoke about business ideas. He said he knew a young lady who was one of Abrahamov's (one of Russia's oligarchs) g'f's. Peter is probably dead now.
