The first time I met him was in Boston at a jazz club called Wally's, when he was student at Berklee. He told me his biggest influence was Booker Little. The last time I saw him we were very happy to see each other, hugged and I introduced him to my wife, Diane. He was an impressive musician when I first met him and expanded into greatness over the years. When I think of him the words modest, sensitive, kind and gentle come to mind. He was a beautiful soul and when I think of his passing tears come to my eyes.

He is playing the rotary valve trumpet. He might have been the only jazz musician who played that instrument. The mechanism is similar to a french horn. Search KZbin for more details about this instrument.

Its a rotary flugelhorn, is considerable brighter than the valve flugelhorn.

It is not the right way to play the trumpet a saxo. Nevertheless nice to hear, the sense, the mood, the rythm.
