I always find that sturgia is so weak and gets destroyed by anyone in reality they shouldnt be so weak considering the armour they wear its pretty frustrating

They are only good, when their neighbours have the best horse archers, fians, and banner knights. The only thing that keeps them safe is the fact that they are faster on snow

i somehow am in a campaign where sturgia is doing the stomping they quickly won the early war against valandia somehow and just snowballed them and battania

Sturgia is just weird in general. They are supposed to be the infantry faction, but for some reason just like Vlandia and the 3 empires, their elite line is Cavalry. However more to how badly they get bulldozed early game is luck based. If they can even push somewhat into getting horse archers or fians they should be fine. If they can't break through or have too many fights going on too many fronts, they crumble. I have noticed though, that no matter how badly they get pushed onto the defensive, they somehow survive unless eradicated by the player
