It's still a guessing game. I think I taste it? Are their tongues out? That is a requirement of the OSHA Standard. How do you know? Also holding the tongue out actually changes the way the respirator fits. Qualitative Test are just that qualitative. Why would you not preform a quantitative fit test and know for sure whether the respirator is actually fitting the employee. Stop playing games with your employees safety. Step up to an accurate method with a quantitative fit tester. (Also in Fall of 2019 OSHA shortened the quantitative fit testing time to 2.5 minutes as opposed to the qualitative 7 excercises of at least 7 minutes in length.)

The qualitative fit test is one of the methods that is approved by OSHA for respirator fit testing, so it is a safe method to ensure fit. Also, not everyone has access to a quantitative fit tester.
