Armando, in case of pulmonary embolism there is no more perfusion in a certain segment of the lung. As a result of that, there is an area of high V/Q. That is what you said. But now the blood is go everywhere else so perfusion increases in other areas. So everywhere else you get an area of low V/Q and therefore low oxygen in the blood.

I dońt understand - why there is more ventilation in smaller alveoli? I get it that can expand, but big alveoli in the apex are already "expanded" so what's the difference? 4:33

lol i used to think perfusion is the amount of gas that was absorbed into the blood. Thats why i was confused at how there could be a higher perfusion volume than the volume that was ventilated. This video cleared it up for me in the first 10 seconds haha. Thanks!

At the beginning you said that the ventilation is higher at the apex. However later on you’re saying that the ventilation and perfusion are higher at the bases. I’m confused confused
@aar_m18 ай бұрын
hi i know this is a bit late, but i'm pretty sure what he meant was that, whilst ventilation is technically higher at the base of the lungs, perfusion is much higher, therefore there is LESS ventilation than perfusion. Correspondingly, whilst ventilation is technically lower at the apex than the base, perfusion at the apex is even lower due to gravity, therefore there is MORE ventilation than perfusion at the apex.
