Would a high flow flowmeter, with a blender and a heater, hooked up to a Fischer-Paykel be as effective? We have a couple of these and also Airvos. I like the blender setup because It starts right away. No warmup needed. The fio2 doesn't change if you change the flow. The FiO2 doesn’t fluctuate with back pressure (Optiflows really have a big problem with that). The FiO2 can be set above 95% without alarming Does not require going through a special maintenance cycle after so many uses. Is smaller and more manuverable around the bedside. Downsides are: Not having an FiO2 analyzer Needing an air outlet. I may be missing something. Also, the FP cannulas are soft for comfort BUT pinch off easily. Vapotherm has a stiffer cannula. I'd like a firmer FP cannula

Sounds like a research project! Great breakdown of your assessment of each. I appreciate you watching and contributing to the conversation.

Great response, that was exactly the answer I hoping to hear. I’ve only seen airvo or truly the older fisher pykel setup a few times up close as a CNA. I found it to be extremely helpful. Now that I’m learning more about devices and how fixed fio2 and heat and humidity I wanted to get more opinions before clinical next semester. The more I wrap my brain around it now the better it’ll hopefully absorb when I’m considering how to help my patients. I’ll watching this again. Deep into ventilation and oxygenation in CRAP now and my brain is trying to keep up. Appreciate you taking the time!

You'll keep up. It takes time for everything to come together, but I promise you it will. Stay engaged and critically thinking about things the way you do. It will all click in due time!!!

Would the airvo still deliver some PEEP if it was connected to a trach via trach adaptor (with cuff deflated)?

Yes, not a large amount of peep, but some.

Thank you Coach for the knowledge. My name is isaac and please talk about vent weaning for intubation in regards to Occlusion Pressure (P1.0).I use the drager infiniti 500 ventilator and I'm thinking of incorporating P1.0 as part of weaning during sedation vacation.

I have a question! Does the airvo and vapotherm give positive pressure?

Is the Airvo high flow on a stick? Is that the same?
