How about the number indicators on the ETT? Smaller the number deeper it is right or are they just used for charting/repositioning purposes?

The numbers on the ETT indicate how many cm’s deep the tube is in the airway so the recommended range is 21-25cm, the lower side of that for females and the higher side for males and then 3-5cm above carina

The deeper the airway the larger the number on the tube. It is very important to document the tube placement. It is possible the tube could accidentally be advanced or pulled out slightly. Use all methods available to you to ensure that the tube placement is correct.

I've seen MDs just bury an ETT only for me to say we only have breath sounds on the right side and asymmetrical chest rise! Ummmm.... doc?! Right mainstem much? Thanks, Coach!
