DNA testing is not 100% infallible. If you don’t believe me look up the case of Lydia Fairchild (source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydia_Fairchild) who exhibited a rare case of Chimerism. Meaning Fairchild exhibited two sets of DNA and her children did not match her directly. Her children were almost removed from her by Child services when she applied for child support.

Yep - that's exactly what I did. Divorced my ex who basically treated me like an ATM. Took what was left and bought 5 acres with an abandoned singlewide. Fixed it up, made it livable and 3 years later put a nice super doublewide on the property. Had the old tin can hauled off. I am far, far better off now. Too many guys I've worked with found out years later they had a kid and the mother his being in a relationship while they were with her. And most those guys were devastated to learn they'd been cheated out of being a dad from the go.

Yeah, not sure how I feel about that. I don't know that I could just abandon a child I raised as my own for three years, a child that loves me as her father. At the same time, it must be devastating to him to find out about this, because he'll never be able to look at her the same again. I'm not sure how I'd react. I definitely wouldn't stay with the mom, but I don't know that I would just peace out and never see the child again. It's not her fault.

The sad thing is, there are judges all across this country that would still make this guy pay child support just because he's been raising this kid as his own, and I know it's not the childs fault but it's just not right. If I were him, though, I would have had a second test done while he had the chance, just to eliminate any doubt.

It's also equality - a woman who carries a child in her womb for 9 months and gives birth without complications knows she has a child; mental illness and unlikely child-swaps aside, she knows when she watches that child pulled out of her that her child is hers. A man doesn't have that luxury by nature (especially since mutations such as the child being born with different coloured hair can give false negatives), so DNA tests are a big equalizer between the sexes.

In some countries in the past, the results of a blood test for both parents blood type alongside the baby's blood type was required to be entered on a birth certificate. In other words, the father may not be certain that the baby was his, however her would know for certainty if it was not.

I have a friend who thought he had 3 kids. He found out the oldest daughter wasn't his quite early on but carried on looking after the other 2 only to find out much later on that they weren't his either. He thought he had 3 children and turned out non were his.
