Losing Jeff Beck was hard. I took guitar lessons in grammar school because of Beck and Clapton. Turns out my fingers aren’t long enough, or weren’t in 7th grade. Watching my heroes slip away has been really hard. Rod and Jeff performed a lot together. Rod Stewart better live forever. I just couldn’t take that.

Beck had an extraordinarily long career. What made Beck stand out was how he morphed his guitar prowess into so many different styles and genres, allowing him to always be contemporary. You can find outstanding instrumentals from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, 20's......Jeff left hits in 7 decades of an immaculate career. For his early work, sample Freeway Jam, Pork Hat Pie, El Becko, and compare those to his more recent works where he played in the techno-house genre like What Mama Said, Space For The Papa, Roy's Toy. And, Jeff Beck is the world's greatest guitarist. Sorry Jimi, you were great, but Jeff brought out almost impossible sounds out of a Strat.

This song was first released in 1965 by The Impressions. Jeff does a stellar guitar performance while Rod's vocal solo just beautiful. The instruments, especially the organ, make a wonderful backing. It's been covered by Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Chamber Btothers, Vanilla Fudge, to name a few. People Get Ready, was in reference to passing on, catching the train that took you to the promise land. The guitarist, famous guitarists went to see. And a humble person to boot. Little is talked of the number of female musicians he has employed, mentored, encouraged and given a nudge to their careers. He never mentions it, but check any live performance and there they are. I'm so pleased he played at Ronnie Scott's before he passed. He was so stoked to have knocked it off his bucket list.

Jeff , god bless him a unique guitar maestro. The album Truth featuring Rod on vocals was released 55 years ago in July. I had tickets to see Jeff but the show was cancelled due to covid, couldn’t make the rescheduled date and I’m so sad I was unable to see a genius at work. This is a wonderful track a lovely way to salute such a one off skilled musician.

My favorite thing about Rod is that it turns out he's a huge model railroading nerd. As a fellow hobbyist, it's nice to see someone prominent who is willing to share that side of his life. If you love an artist who touches your soul with his guitar and songs I recommend Angel Eyes by the legendary Jeff Healey. This Canadian artist was born blind yet still managed to become one of the worlds greatest guitarists & songwriter. He plays sitting with his guitar on his lap & every performance is deeply emotional. Sadly he passed away much too young in 2008. The Jeff Healey Band were Patrick Swazye’s personal choice to play the house band in the cult classic film Roadhouse.

Jeff and Rod's version came out in 1985... 20 years after the original by Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions. Great version... thank you for giving Jeff a listen. One of Jeff's best solos can be found in his song "Cause We've Ended As Lovers". He really makes the guitar cry. If you do the Live at Ronnie Scott's video version you can hear a killer Bass solo by female bass player Tal Wilkenfeld. One of my favorite quiet ones by Jeff is "Where Were You" from his Guitar Shop album. I could put that thing on loop and just drift off to sleep listening to it.

This is a remarkable song and video! Rod is really a great singer, his voice seems to be smooth and gravelly at the same time, and Jeff really was one if not the greatest guitar players of all time. This song really demonstrates his playing ability, it sounds like a human voice more than just a guitar. This song was written by the remarkable Curtis Mayfield years ago and was a pretty big hit, Jeff and Rob do such a great job with it, I wish Curtis had been alive to hear it. I have this in a playlist called "Good Stuff." The wife and I were listening to this just yesterday when riding around in our old truck. She asked me who Jeff Beck was. Told her "one of the greatest guitarists of our time."

Both Jeff and Rod is giants in thier own world...started early 1960-ties. However Jeff is absolutely a mastodont. He´s the guy who inspirered Jimmi Hendrix, who was looked over his shoulder by people like Jimmi Page, Clapton and many others. Recently I saw an interview of Alice Cooper who told a story of Jeff about how he held his guitar in the fretboard...let it drop and at the same time playing perfect triplets on its way down...only to catch it at the end. Amazing musician
