This is my favorite song about a parent’s love for their child. Captures the next level love that one simply cannot know until having a child. There are so many more songs about romantic love than parental love but it shouldn’t be so. As much you love your spouse, siblings, your own parents, there simply is no comparison to your love for your children. Most powerful force on earth.

This was the 'theme song' at my high school prom (class of 1989). I thought it was corny at the time, but now I look back on it fondly and it means a lot to me. My favorite line is the 'do unto others as you'd have done to you' - not because of it directly, but because of what is around it. He's hoping the best for one he loves, and then mentions something that most people think of as a "rule". But by making it one of the good wishes for his child, it makes it clear that this isn't some top-down oppressive 'rule' but the hope that they'll live that wisdom because it is what makes for a happy peaceful life for the one who does so.

Mary, like you I'm 71 and also believe we grew up at a great time. The music during our teen years was some of the best songs recorded. THE BEATLES, THE ROLLING STONES, THE ANIMALS, ROD STEWART, THE BEACH BOYS are only a few of the groups that made so many great songs. I love seeing young faces when they realize their Grandparents had better music than they do. Love songs that were romantic not vulgar. Today they get really descriptive saying it all. Not romantic at all. Well Mary, seeing young peoples faces when they hear some of the tunes that we still love, is very rewarding. Watching them get excited when hearing LYNARD SKINARD for the first time or LED ZEPPELIN playing Stairway to Heaven. Here's hoping they get inspired to create more music like ours.

This makes six Rod Stewart songs youv'e done, and it's chronologically the last of the bunch (1988). But there are a lot of songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s still to go. "Some Guys Have All the Luck", "Baby Jane", "Passion", "My Heart Can't Tell You No", and "The Motown Song" might be some good ones to choose for your next venture. I wondered for years if the little boy in this video was Rod's son or his nephew or something... turns out it's not. The boy's name is Alex Zuckerman. It's still a beautiful song. P.S. There is an 80s song called "Forever Young" by a German synth-pop band called Alphaville that I think you'd like. It was huge when it came out. This is pretty big stretch to be considered a cover. Some parts of the words are a little similar but also very different and the music is radically different. More of a rewrite than a cover.

As Lion says, it's a rewrite and the music completely different. However the lyrical content and phrases are so similar that they contacted Bob Dylan before releasing it and agreed to give him ALL the royalties from the song. Rod Stewart also wrote his version for his son.

@@ExperienceEric i appreciate your facts, but Stewart shared ownership & royalties with Dylan and this is why I say the original belongs to Bob Dylan. I listen to Dylan's & Stewart's & the Band's (my very favorite) all the time
@lethiapage47672 жыл бұрын
This is heavily inspired by the Bob Dylan version but I wouldn't say a cover either. He changed the instrumentation, changed a lot of the lyrics, and slicked up the production. But in generous fashion when he finished it he consulted Dylan about it and listed him as co-writer on the credits. You guys know I do love Rod Stewart all day everyday and I have always loved this one. I had to grow into the Bob Dylan version and there was a time I didn't like it...to be honest there was a time I just couldn't deal with Dylan's voice at all. But you can't argue his songwriting talent and I grew to understand that a person has the right to perform their own music and when they do it will be something inherently special. When I latched on to that mentality I learned to love Bob Dylan. Now I actually prefer his version of Forever Young to Rod's. He just pours it on out there, holds nothing back. It's s like a desperate prayer and your girl can relate to a desperate prayer. It's simple and humble and very raw and I think you will also love it.

Loved this song and video. The little boy is Alex Zuckerman, an award winning child actor from the late 80's. You should listen to "Some Guys Have All The Luck," by Rod next. Rod is one of the few that got better with age.😍😍😍 Great reaction.

HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY THAT I LOVE YOU - Rod does an outstanding version of this love song (it's a cover of a Van Morrison song - also great) EVERY PITURE TELLS A STORY, I KNOW I'M LOSING YOU, REASON TO BELIEVE, YOU WEAR IT WELL, THE FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST, (give Rod a few more listens to hear the range of his songs) Amber you're an Angel, thanks to Rob and your hard work and reactions.

You two are seriously wonderful humans. There is no age where they stop being your child. Much love 👌

If y'all love this one, you should definitely listen to "It Won't Be Like This for Long" by Darius Rucker.

Great song! There is a live version of this from an awards show years ago when it was new. It may be the Grammys or the MTV music awards anyway its so good and features the same little kid from the video. 😀

I love Amber's reaction, and as I parent I love this song. I'd like to recommend another song by the name "Forever Young" but by Alphaville. In fact, I'd be really surprised if you haven't already heard it (I didn't see it in your reactions). It's not a tear-jerker, but another great song with the same name.

This is why I watch you two. Just seeing Amber get so emotional made me emotional even though I have heard this song a thousand times. Thanks....

Next to Young Turks, this one is my favorite of his. On a different note, Chrissie Hynde (the Pretenders) also did a song by the same title. It's a different song, but just as good. Her voice is captivating.

Really awesome you played this it was hard and emotional to see you play this my dad died a week before Christmas in 1989 me and my brother decorated our Christmas tree we tried to wake him up to surprise him and he wouldn’t wake up. He always listened to Rod stewart. Billy Joel Jim Croce queen genesis Phil collins so it brought back memories of my dad playing this song for me

One of my favorites is ROD STEWART - Reason To Believe (UNPLUGGED & SEATED). It's the live unplugged MTV session he did with Ron Wood of The Rolling Stones. I've heard singers I like better do versions of this, but they all pale in comparison - this is his song and he does it better than anyone! It's only four minutes, please play it.

There are several songs titled “Forever Young.” This one is fine, but my favorite is by Alphaville. I think you’d like it. Very cool vibe. I’d also put Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” ahead of Rod’s. Again, they’re all completely different songs- not versions or covers of the same song.

Rod Stewart has one of those voices that it doesn’t matter if it’s rock, pop along the lines of disco he can sing at all. I love his music and I always have.

My husband & I saw Rod at Rupp Arena in 1982 while I was 8 months pregnant with our Son. He was Rockin & Kickin like crazy in my womb. It was amazing👏 Jason is in his 40s now & can brag that he heard Rod Stewart in 1982, one month before being born👶
