Excellent I'm pleased it helped you. If you have a Siemens programmer you can blow eproms with that, just make sure they are empty of old programs first.

Also be careful of which eprom you use on which programmer as the older eproms were blown at a higher voltage

Hello, I have Simatic S5-115U CPU 945 with compact card and after a long time over 5 years, it was switched off. Now I need to run all the machine back again. I have changed the batteries in power supply and I can see on CPU flashing STOP and red light on BASP, as I understood from your video I need to perform Overall reset. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Also before I do it I would like to find out is the program still in CPU after such long time if I have a compact card inside, how I can make a backup of a program and if I perform Overall reset will the program load automatically from the compact card. I would really appreciate your help as I'm new in this type of field.

Went into work one morning and the night electrician had a breakdown with a PLC fault. For some reason he had removed all the modules from a dual rack and forgot what went where and guessed. There were Dig inputs where analogue outputs should have been etc. Nightmare. Fortunately I found a drawing showing the correct layout. Phew.

Thank you very much. Quite simple procedure... once you know it. Otherwise, you’re doomed. 😰 Regarding the Nonretenting Presetting (NR) / Retentive Presetting (RE) switch, which is the difference? What happens if you don’t set it to the correct position? I’m trying to understand a problem we have with lost parameters after power loss and I’m not sure where’s the problem. Our switch is always in NR position. What can go wrong if we try to start it in RE position, just to see how affects our problem? We have ruled out backup battery (it reads 3.6V, and voltage is present in UBATT line).

Hello. Here is a quote from the CPU manual 115u - "CPUs 941 and 942 process the control program direct from the submodule. CPUs 943 and 944 copy the contents of the memory submodule is extremely high speed." I have a cpu 942 and an eprom module. Can I change the program through a laptop and adapter? Or do I need to overwrite the eprom programmer?

Hi. Is the CPU you are using revision "a" like 6es5 942 7ua12? As far as I know the program is copied over into internal RAM for processing in the revision b. If you are needing to make a modification to the program in the EPROM I would suggest purchasing another eprom and erasing/blowing that one with your modifications so if something does goes wrong at least you can revert back to the original program. If you do take the original EPROM out make sure the EPROM chips are covered over to protect the program as uv light erases the chips! Thanks.

in your presentation image, you have a Siemens S5-110 PLC, a question the epron memory of this PLCS5-110 can I use in another PLC or read the Program in another S5 PLC for example 1 S5-100 --- 2 example S5 CPU 944B.......thanks for the reply

Hi. As far as I know the s5 110a had a different format to the rest of the S5 family like the 100, 115 etc as there was only one program block, so I think the structure of a 110a program would be wrong for a 100. You could read the program on the eprom using a pg630, pg631 or a pg670, the pg670 needed an old version of s5 called step 5 parallel. Once you have read the code using the programmer you could then convert. I may do a video on the reading of a 110a eprom. Thanks.

Hi. I have had a read through the 115u manual for the b version of processors and it appears that the 941 and 942 CPU run their program from the memory submodule too.

Hi. If the battery goes flat and there is no memory module installed and the power goes off then the program will be lost. It's good practice to keep the batteries refreshed but keep the power on while you change the batteries. Also if you can, keep an up to date backup of the program.

Hello, Do you have an idea of what could be wrong with my 7A/15A power supply. When I connect it to the mains voltage and flip the power switch, it quickly flashes 5V led once and then does nothing. CPU also flashes its leds same way. Battery indicator and its reset switch works normally but rest of the power supply acts like not turning on.

Replace all smaller electrolytic capacitors first. When they get old their ESR gets high and they can't receive charge or discharge fast enough. If this does not work then replace the larger and more expensive Capacitors. More expensive, but make sure you mark polarity otherwise a wrong polarity will explode capacitor. Some of those caps are centre tapped + and radially are - .

Hi. The number is what Siemens call the e stand number. It indicates that there has been a minor change to the product but not significant enough to issue a part change.

Hi, the S5 135U has a different method for restarting the CPU after an over all reset. I uploaded a video recently of how to restart a 135. I hope this helps. Thanks.
