I would really like to see a speed run where we don’t get ‘easier openings’ just because we are at a lower rating then we only get more theoretical ones when we get higher up the ladder. I really want to see how to punish ‘beginner mistakes’ using theoretical openings like the Najdorf, the Ruy, etc. but I rarely get to see that cauz it’s always the Scotch or something boring when we’re lower rated 😅

To put it clearly those openings wouldn’t be useful since they won’t play the main lines, he plays the “easier openings” because the opponents will often play into them instead of the najdorf…. From my experience as a 2100 rapid player I don’t think people are playing those lines below 1600ish

Agreed. Vienna and scotch game result in lots of early blunders from 1400s but id really want to see Danya play openings like the Ruy from both sides as well as the KID. No Italian tho, i would fall asleep.

Hi Danya, I just wanted to express how much I truly enjoy your content. Your dedication and passion for chess really shine through in everything you do. You're one of the absolute best teachers when it comes to chess! If you are thinking about restarting the speedrun, I'd love to see some full-fledged classical chess. You bring so much value in your explanations and thoughts, and it would be incredible and fascinating to hear/watch a Grandmaster going through things like Closed Spanishes/Italians. Maybe bring out some romantic chess? It'd be super fun to see the King's/Evan's/Scotch Gambit! There's also things like the Four Pawns vs the Alekhine, or a nice fun line like the Lasker Simul Gambit. I'd love to see some Classical Caro-Kann too, It's definitely sad to see how it's fallen out of favor despite (in my opinion) still having some venom for White. Some more Advanced would be good too, especially the Milner-Barry. Could also show some love to the Classical French too. Austrian Attack vs the Pirc/Modern, Modern/Classical/Nimzowitsch vs Petroff...And for the Sicilian it would be super fun to see a cut-throat Yugoslav vs the Dragon, or English Attack vs the Najdorf! Rossolimo & Sveshnikov would be nice too. Not to mention on the Black side how beneficial it would be to hear about the Queen's Gambit Declineds, Slavs like the Semi with the highly theoretical Botvinnik, or Moscow! Even the Classical Slav is pretty interesting. Then there's of course the creme of the crop in the Breyer, Chigorin, Open or Marshall Attack! Two Knights vs the Italian? Modern vs the King's Gambit? Bc5 vs the Scotch? Thank you for your dedication and contributions to the world of chess! I hope you can consider these suggestion, but i'm still going to eagerly wait whatever you post next. Keep up the amazing work!

What about a strictly 10 + 15 speedrun? Your over-the-board explanations are best in those games, and you don't have to rely on pressing on your opponent's clock as much. I think most of us understand well enough by now the importance of time management, and even how to apply it, because even low rated players work on that skill.

There’s really no “silver bullet” answer to this question. At any moment, Danya can be tired, hungry, sick, unfocused trying to teach, not to mention he rarely plays online rapid AND is playing 2300+ players who have a lower difference in skill. Plus, he has a tendency to over exaggerate being “outplayed.” Perhaps he is facing one/move cheaters or snipers. Again, it is simply impossible to say.

Maybe for the next set of speedrun, Daniel can do review viewer's video similar to Coach Andres's "The coach reacts" series. It's very useful to see the common mistakes that players at different level experience. The student's explaining the moves as it goes is important since sometimes player make the right move for the wrong reason, can then the mistakes shows up 1 move later.

When you cover your eyes and calculate, what do you see? Is it visually seeing in your mind, or combination of seeing and knowing (knowing that a file is open or piece is hanging, etc)

I'm somewhat able to do this as well, and yes you can see the entire board, but as you visualize the moves, the real board isn't confusing your mind with the pieces that are stationary. I cant do it all the time, but for instance while watching Agadmator a while back, I was able to see a 7 move mate in a game later while laying in bed, and do what-ifs on the position. So far the hardest part for me is that I can't remember the position well enough to play it out without missing things. I calculate a lot of checkmates and tactics in courses on Chessable and really try to calculate to the end every time, and that really helps this skill, but for me it is slow to improve. Probably like many things, the better you get at it, the faster you improve.

I completely get restarting the speedrun due to the prevalence of suspicious players in the blitz pool at 2200+. Also, I imagine these higher level games take a lot more effort and get less viewership. On the other hand, I wanted to express my deep appreciation for these high level games and analyses. As a ~1900fide level player, I feel completely lost in complex positions like the one at 31:40, and seeing you break them down and make sense of them is quite enlightening. If this ends up being the last video of the speedrun, I'd nominate your recent game where you played Black vs the Jobava for "game (+analysis) of the run". That entire video was just incredible.

This is the last video. Next week, Danya starts the "positional" speedrun. One thing that's important to note about Danya's speedruns is that their point is easy to misunderstand, and I believe that is your case as well. This is the "deep opening analysis" speedrun. While Danya does go over these games as a whole, he focuses on one aspect of the game, and what you learn may be limited. I believe that this new positional run, which centers around an aspect of the game highly neglected by the majority of chess players, is a change of pace well overdue. You, and perhaps many others, will gain far more value from the early stages of this new run than you might think. For example, say Danya is playing a 800 in the fried liver. A normal speedrun game might go over all of the complexities and traps arising from such an opening, some insane bishop sacrifice, the odd line or two if you're lucky. Alas, an individual such as yourself, who is well-seasoned with this content, may not derive any useful value from it. A positional run, however, may go into diatribes about the middlegames of the fried liver, the common ideas associated with it, which anyone below master-level can appreciate. If you think this is not true, you are underestimating Danya. I mean he leaked his opening preparation at one point, which should show the lengths he goes to deliver on his promised "theme." In essence, anticipate this new run. Enjoy it. And you may learn from its earlier games just as much as these later games.

I think starting over makes sense, I think about 1000 is the sweet spot where you need to show some knowledge about the game and not just take hanging pieces

Agreed. I think a little over 1000, 1400-1700 or so feels perfect to me. I just think these 2000+ games are probably good for super high-rated players, but a lot of the moves he makes automatically are not obvious to me, whereas he'd explain them if it was earlier in the speedrun.
