Excellent podcast! You should consider making a series on the War of the Roses. Would be brilliant.

As an Texan I love this podcast thanks for giving us history lessons. You can't get any history on the history Channel anymore

He could do one on Texas, "Forget The Alamo". 😁

Doyle's prose in the opening segment was so awful that I mistook it for an extract from one of Dominic Sandbrook's novels.

Hi, There were 2 books mentioned; one on the Black Price and the other the history of the 100 year war. Anybody know what they were?

King John had a way with cracking cities. No good in a battle, but he knew his way around a siege. So why does Edward III not simply starve the cities he invests?
@bob_the_bomb4508Ай бұрын
It’s hard logistically to lay siege to a city. You have to establish your own resupply system and avoid disease in your camp at a time when people don’t really understand hygiene. Look what happens to Henry V at Harfleur…

I think the French are completely capable of the account of the knight and his family. We know French peasants introduced the reign of terror. That incident is as nothing compared to that.

The last episode should be agincourt for 90% and the last 10% how the war actually ended 😂
@ben.mitchell.theater8 ай бұрын
The war allegedly ended with Treaty of Picquigny (1475) when Edward 4th formally renounced his claim to the French throne But it's difficult to see why that date is chosen, as the war didn't start as a result of any claim by Edward 3rd to the throne. The war started owing to Edward moving into France to gain some defensive positions to prevent France invading England. Arguably the war didn't finally end until 1558 when France regained Calais from Henry 8th daughter Mary Tudor, at which point England's military presence in France ended.

Was going to be annoyed until they mentioned it's only half time. Was bout to say... Agincourt, Orleans, Joan of Arc!

I could just about hear a bad cover of Land of Hope and Glory during that last reading. Sadly, Doyle indulged in some terribly purple prose.

A native intelligence isn't much of a compliment. That's like saying someone has an animal cunning. Not terrible...but not good either.

Unlistenable to. So much giggling and schoolboy japes, with the Knights sort of 14th century pop stars. Yuk.
