"Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown…”
Henry IV has been portrayed as both a shadowy, obscure figure, and a strong king who was loved by his people. Prior to ascending the throne, Henry, the son of John of Gaunt, was admired for his glamour, clemency, courage and strong faith, but these sympathies quickly turned to suspicion when he became a ruling regicide. Indeed, after a failed rebellion in 1388 against Richard II, Henry led a second coup against the king, and successfully usurped the throne in 1399. Once king, keen to gain legitimacy, he delivered his claim to the throne in English, and vowed to respect the will of the people. But he had inherited a divided country, which was surrounded by enemies in France, Scotland and Wales. And, despite being elected to the throne by his peers, and, as some sources claimed, prophesied by Merlin and selected by a greyhound, Henry quickly lost popularity, and himself faced violent rebellions. When the brewing uprising in Northern Wales finally erupted in the autumn of 1400, with the Scots following suit not long thereafter, Henry would need all his allies to stand firmly by his side…

I used to live a ten minute bike ride away from Old Bolingbroke, where Henry was born. Loved it there.

What got me was that he had himself buried alongside his uncle the Black Prince in Canterbury even though he usurped and subsequently murdered the princes son

Your series on the Pelasgians is amazing. It is unique on KZbin because you are the only one putting the pieces of the puzzle together and making connections. The only thing I would disagree on is the digamma F. Digamma simply means a double gamma γγ which would be pronounced as a g in English. The description given of the Pelasgian is a gamma with a triangle on top.

Shakespeare was an Albaphobe. Not content with maligning MacBeth and Lady MacBeth, he also accuses the Scots of interfering in in England. That's rich as England has spent most of its history interfering in just about every country in Europe's politics.

@@xplorer841 the fact it didn’t happen in battle it was in the next village over (where the local council bull dosed to build a bypass) and if the Normans landed in pevensey as suggested they’d of had to force march about 30 miles in a day over serious terrain to sack the settlement of Hastings in the same morning - impossible unless you’re a Zulu lol

King Charles is by far the most underrated, he essentially created modern British politics and how we view ourselves as a country - or at least contributed to it more than a lot of kings

I think blaming Richard's exile of Henry on jealousy without mentioning that Henry was part of a conspiracy is misleading. The other conspirators were executed but Richard spared Henry because they were cousins.

Pls stop telling the people who do things how to do what they do, either do it yourself or find something else to entertain you” and btw given that we won the game of empire, brought modern engineering, modern medicine and the fair rule of law, to the world AND STOPPED SLAVERY ! We kinda are the centre of the universe 🤔
