I recently finished my food safety course. In a professional setting you're supposed to wash fruits and vegetables all separarte and then soak them together in any diluted disinfectant of your choice. If you soak them while still dirty, they are just getting more dirt from all the other produce. Also, stuff lasts more when you store it clean and dry. In the video they are all too moist to be put away. But saving stuff dirty will just let it have mold spores and bacteria on the outer layer, specially with more organic stuff. Just some tips for the people on the comments.

She’s putting vinegar in water- I’m not sure she has ratio right. But it works! Particularly with berries! Do it all the time. 1 cup vinegar to 4 cups water and soak for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse and let air dry. I do put paper towels in glass containers with snap lids. Makes a big difference with strawberries and raspberries - last so much longer without mold!

@@1Hawting haha I can see why you would ask that. What I usually do is after washing the lettuce I put them in a towel and spin. For me it's easier than getting that thing out and washing vs. throwing the dish towel in the laundry. Btw I only use white dish towels so they can be sanitized.

Apples have a natural thin wax layer, that keeps them fresh longer. So just wash and rub directly before eating!
@zooweellama
@zooweellama Жыл бұрын
They also have pesticides that need to be *soaked* off, not rinsed. If you wanna soak your apples every time you want one, go for it. But doing it beforehand is much smarter and makes you more motivated to eat them when you can just grab and go.

Very cool. The question I have is why they pick strawberries that are still white. That is the clearest indication that they are not ripe AND strawberries once picked do not continue to ripen so just pick the things a day or two later when they are ripe.
