Great work your doing, my only concern is that, THAT car is two cars welded together, (I could be wrong ) a red front end from the fire wall and a white rear end from the front doors to the back. I hope ( I’m sure you will address the vehicle structure before it goes back on the road. On a positive note I’m glad your putting the effort into restoring and showing what people can really do when they put their mind to it and helping to educate the rest of us. Best of luck from the (UK).
@ianallen24 жыл бұрын
These guys have more guts than car restorers of today. In UK, that car would be in pieces in a skip at a scrap yard. I look forward to the rest of these video's.

I'm all for restoring cars but that's just not safe, there's BS rules in the UK I get it but that car without it being just a skin over a new chassis is lethal. It's mostly rust.

@ianallen24 жыл бұрын
@@purdy9431 I thought they were mad cutting the roof off just for the bit of rust above the windscreen, but in the description, they said it was going to be a convertable. It will still need solid structure even on a chassis. I had to laugh when he hammered the floors out and expecting to go through the metal where there was no rust with just a hammer. lol. They hammer the floors out and gas axe the roof off. I thought they were going to give it a roof chop like a hot rod. lol

@@purdy9431 In reality, this car needs replacing, not restoring. In my mind, it wont be as strong when done.

I hope these guys the best, but for all the people asking why they're even bothering, here's why. In Vietnam salaries usually are low, about 3-5 million VND outside of Saigon or Hanoi, or about $150-250 USD per month. Cars, however, cost a lot of money, as car importation was restricted in the 1980s and 1990s by the government, and there's a 100% import tax and a 80% registration tax when you buy a new vehicle (or some sort of number that adds up to about 200%.) Vietnam has very little native automotive industry so most cars are imported, so cars like a Honda CRV that cost about $25,000 in USA are almost $80,000 in Vietnam. Older vehicles are still very expensive usually and even a 1990s Civic or Accord is about $4000-5000, when a yearly salary could be as low as $1800. Hourly labor rates are usually low, at about $1 an hour. So if they put even 200-300 hours labor into this car, they can still come out ahead money-wise there, and have a car, which most people don't have.

I'm still under the impression that the word "restoration" doesn't translate well from English to the language. I keep watching these and thinking, "there's no way they're going to rebuild this car". Maybe in their language it translates to someone closer to the word "salvage". This is where you get over priced "original factory manufactured parts" from. But I'm gonna keep watching to see where this goes to.

These guys be like: I think i found a car challenging enough for us to restore- virtually everything is ruined, oh let me just pull out a catalog to order a new floor for a 30 year old economy car.... oh wait noone cared about it so we'll build our own because THAT is what restoring a car is. if not its junkyard hopping and i bet while these cars are popular they aren't much better than this guy.

You guys are making first, and thinking afterwards? Why did you cut the roof off from the top of A-pillars? Now you don't have a whole frame for windshield because you got rid of roof reinforcement at the front edge on roof. And the whole body of the car bent badly and almost cut to half when you started to lift it up after taking the roof off. You should have a sturdy jig for chassis support.
