Restoration of a 1949 9ct Gold JW. BENSON Wristwatch

So in this video I'm 'restoring' this 1949 JW. BENSON. The movement is cleaned and serviced, dial is cleaned, the gold case is polished and a new leather strap is fitted. This is a more of a raw video with you looking at what I would see thru an eyeglass, not as much speeding up hence the video being a little longer. I've also spared you from listening to my voice XD, tell me what you think

J.W Benson there's a name from history. I worked on a lot of their clocks dating back well over 100 years. The old girl across the road is his granddaughter. Think she must be about 100 now herself :)

Thanks for the video -- really enjoyed it. One question: How did you clean the dial? It's a nice smart job without ruining the aged look by appearing brand new.

With some cotton wool, water and creme a tartre. Dip the wool into the water then the creme a tarte and then gently rub the surface of the dial. Works miracles

The video is a bit arty imo. I am interested in the technical disassembly/reassembly of the movement and a close up of a screw being undone in soft focus, although lovely, doesn't allow me to see what you are doing. just me twopenarth.

If you do another cymaflex you dont need to remove the actual arm covering the balance cap jewel. Just move it over to the side with a bit of pegwood, saves unscrewing it

For people wanting to get into this type of work, what would be step one?

I would get some basic tools such as a screwdriver set, some tweezers, some movement holders, containers to put parts into and some oils/greases. There's plenty of info online and videos such as this one which can guide you through the strip down and assembly process. To practice I would start with a manual wind watch, nice and straight forward :)

@@sevyxuoir6714 Something like a 6498 ETA movement or clone copy. A good size to start out on and good quality (the eta at least). If not then perhaps a manual wind pocket watch could also be suitable
