“Jubilee” means anniversary “Silver” refers to the 25th year anniversary where gifts are traditionally silver (for 50 years being gold etc) The plate is not made of silver, it was a souvenir made of another metal. It appears to have been originally copper plated then likely nickel plated to make it look silver originally but this coating corroded.

Even though the use of a wire brush appeared a little harsh for cleaning the rare silver plate, at least you polished it using more gentle methods. It looks much better than before. Great work.

First of all, this ISN'T a silver plate, because silver tarnishes black. And stainless steel doesn't corrode like this either. So... it has to be a cheaper copy of the commemorative plate.

I’m not understanding why a valuable piece was restored using harsh measures. Thank you for the video, but most that restore such historical pieces like this as a professional, tend to use softer less harsh & gentle measures to insure the piece isn’t compromised from what’s left of its original state.

I believe during the time of this silver jubilee there must have been hundreds if not thousands given to the people that attended this historical event and now after all this time you’ve gotten your hands on one is priceless to say the least. You’ve done a wonderful job restoring it to its glory and anyone with English roots or not would be proud to have it in their possession.

ESTÁ PRECIOSO. PERO HE ESTADO SUFRIENDO CON TANTOS LIJADOS. ESA TÉCNICA SE LLAMA * REPUJADO * Y CONSISTE EN HACER UN MOLDE Y LUEGO COLOCAR LA LÁMINA DEL METAL QUE SE VÁ A REPUJAR. ES MUY ENTRETENIDO SI SE HACE A MANO DANDO GOLMES AL METAL PARA QUE ADQUIERA LAS FORMAS DE DICHO MOLDE. NO ESTOY CONFORME CON LOS REPULIDOS QUE LE HA DADO. QUIERA QUE NO, ALGO SE " COME Y SE DESVIRTÚA EL MOTIVO. CON EL BAÑO DE PLATA ÚLTIMO Q LE DIÓ, , PUEDE Q SE HAYA RECUPERADO EL GROSOR ORIGINAL. PARA MÍ GUSTÓ, NO LO HUBIERA PLATEADO. LO ANTIGUO ES VIEJO Y REMOZARLO TANTO , LE RESTA ENCANTO. TENGO UN MARCO PORTARRETRATO DE ESTAÑO Y REPUJADO Y ESTOY LOCA CON ÉL. LO PUSIERON DE REBAJA LA LA GENTE NO SABÍA VALORARLO. ES DE LA INDIA.

You state the piece is made of English Silver. Silver does not rust especially with the type of oxide the plate was covered in. Silver can be tarnished to which there are special cleaners that will not abrade the surfaces as you have done. Why would you brass plate the silver ? Usually you would silver plate brass. Very sad to see an historical item being treated so badly, please if you don't know how to restore pieces leave it to the experts.

There is a difference between I don’t even know how to call what you did and preservation, in my opinion the plate lost all its value, you removed material, original plating and even re-plated the part for what, to make it shiny? All traces of history have been erases and in my opinion a careful use of proper chemical and a slight hand polishing leaving the marks of history would have left the piece in its original value but it’s only my humble opinion. Thank you for your videos that I enjoy seeing.

First off silver dosent rust. Either it have been atrificially added as many "Restoring" channels do, or the item isen't acually made of silver. Secondly dont use wire brushes on silverware, it will do more damage than good. Use weak acids like citric acid or vinegar do breake up the rust. Even gently heating it up to a slight glow would do the thrick. Then use a soft abrasive sponge whit some polishing compound to bring it back in to a shine.

If I could just make a small correction to your commentary . . . ? British monarchs do not "rule". They "reign". A ruler's authority can always be revoked; a monarch's authority cannot. It only can cease to be recognised. That plate was not silver, as silver doesn't rust. It tarnishes (goes black). Secondly, even if it were silver, you wouldn't plate brass over silver. That would be putting a cheaper material over a noble material. It looked to me like cheap tinware, stamped out in the thousands. And thirdly---and most importantly---if it were silver-plate you would undoubtedly destroy it by your aggressive scrubbing with a wire brush and the harsh treatments you subjected it to. Please do not try to sell the piece as British Silver. That would be fraudulent. The word "silver" in this case refers to the "silver" anniversary of the king's reign---25 years. Hope this helps clarify matters.

This rare commemorative plate was cleaned with wire brushes? It makes sense, that a silver plated item would have copper underneath, so why did copper and silver turn rusty? Maybe it would have been faster to polish it on a grinding stone? Or use a set of coarse files? The scratches add an authentic-looking patina. Maybe use a hammer on an anvil to get rid of those pesky bumps in the middle?
