In 1987, I bought a JVC rack system from Hudsons Department store. The CD player you worked on may be the exact model, not sure but it looks basically the same from my memory. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and for keeping these great old units out of the landfill!

Hi! It’s very possible. I don’t know Hudson’s as we had a similarly named Hudson’s Bay store (The Bay) that was competing with Sears. However both had various models that were often just rebranded. I love restoring old electronics and find it such a shame to throw them in landfills. This is one of my first shows, you might enjoy some of the newer ones even more where I performed some more in depth open heart surgeries. Thanks for watching!

@@RetroRepairGuy Around 1991ish the display went out on my JVC CD player. It ended up being a display light that looked like a fuse. I found the part at Radio Shack and it was restored to it's glory. The good old days! :) I ended up giving most of my stuff to salvation army about 10 years ago. I hope it's out there being used.

Hi, why don't you add it to your personal collection? doesn't have good sound? I have a JVC XLV 330 to change the straps but I don't know if it's worth the material costs. Thank you very much, greetings from Argentina.

Hi Tadeo! Wow I'm so happy that my videos reach people all the way in Argentina! This was only my third episode on the channel and I found this for $6 and made a show but was not something I had purchased for myself. I have much better equipment which is why I never kept it around. JVC generally made very decent equipment and definitely worth fixing. Belts you can order from China in bags full for very cheap. I have to get rid of some stuff or else Mrs. RRG will not be happy so I kept a couple of Sony and Technics ones but it wasn't because JVC was no good, just these were more expensive units with more features. Thanks for watching. Check out this episode, it was another CD player kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJzFn6R9pcR3kNU and this DVD Player was a reference player with dual laser was extremely good quality and a high end player kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3yoiYGbr5t1pNk

My latest video is out kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaDSYmB6iN-Wa6M I restored an old drum machine that was extremely dirty. It's a Yamaha RX5 which is the same model used by many groups in the 80s including a-ha, Prince, Madonna and Vangelis. Hope you enjoy! I worked really hard on it.

I was gifted a Teac PD-D860 CD player recently and having a hard time locating a user manual but don't wanna spring for $20 to get one. Any idea where to look?? Appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Marty. I looked and specifically that one no but you can guide yourself using this one, it's free and it's almost identical in many ways www.manualslib.com/manual/1376921/Teac-Pd-D2610.html Even for sale I only see the PD-D850 which is a closer match and probably same unit with probably a different output or feature removed but it's still $16.99 www.servicemanuals.net/en/TEAC-PDD850-Service-Manual Thanks for watching!

Hi. I have vtg Yamaha Cd Player. it shows 0:00 when I insert cd. and only spins 3 times and stops ( even without cd ) I cant figure out whats the problem, motor or laser ? thanks
@RetroRepairGuy
@RetroRepairGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Off the bat I would say if you hear/see the cd spin, you could eliminate the motor. In general if you doubt the motor, just take a battery like a "AA" or any other and with the unit unplugged, connect the plus of battery to the plus (red, blue or other) wire of the motor and the negative to the minus (black) of the motor. If the motor spins, it works and your problem is something else. For the laser assembly, it could be that it is having trouble focusing and stops. It could also be that it "thinks" it's in the wrong position. I would begin with a simple cleaning of the optical with alcohol and swab. The laser has a few potentiometers for adjusting things like speed, focus, intensity, etc. I would recommend getting the schematic or service manual. If the capacitors are off spec and dried up it could cause voltage problems and this in turn is why the readings of the pots are off. If it's a unit you want to keep, before adjusting it according to spec or playing with any of the pots, I would change the caps like I did in this video. It's about as best as I can diagnose for you without having the unit in my hands so hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

I have a similar vintage Denon cd player, operates perfectly but the display fades in and out - mostly out. Is this a common failure and where would I start looking for the failure? Thanks!
@RetroRepairGuy
@RetroRepairGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. I don't know if it's a common problem. However, is the display an LCD or a backlight display? There could very well be something wrong with the display itself or if you have a fade option (like for when it's really dark and too bright) as some have, it might be a problem with that circuit. I would not look too far, if all else is working it's something wrong in the display area.

I need your help, in the video you never showed how to access the belt on the bottom, there is some type of motor in the way and the only possible screw is inaccessible. If you could help me with this that would be amazing! Thanks😅 (I can show you pictures if you don’t know what I mean)
@RetroRepairGuy
@RetroRepairGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! So I think I know what you mean. If you look at 5:34 I did not remove the motor. I simply unscrewed the plate over the gears and removed the large top gear to have room. I then slide the belt under to hookup to the tiny motor and pulled it with a screwdriver over the pulley. Took a couple of tries but I did it and it worked fine as I remember there was no way but to take that entire thing apart. Worth the few minutes. These are the only two belts; the one for the motor and the one for the tray. Hope this helps.
