Restoration of MYSTERY Dirty Piece

Hi! Today, the restoration of the mysterious dirty scabbard and, in my opinion, the knife. My friend's new find. The leather suspension and the tip of the handle are visible. We are starting to restore.
After removing the dirt, I found a piece of steel inside the roughly made iron "scabbard". After a complete cleaning, I determined that it was a piece of a saber of the 1881 model (I am 95% sure of this!).
The steel is good - the project has begun. I'll make a knife. I used the back of the blade where the holes appeared from the rust.
Furthermore, I adjusted the blade, sharpened it and took a deer horn for the handle. Secured with two rivets and glue.
I additionally processed and made an ordinary leather case from the leather of an old boot in which this blade will be stored.
I also did the usual test for you, do not forget to share this video. Thank you!

My mentor would often call a blade like this well for him made from old machetes or corn knives a hack blade. The idea was simple enough reusing old steel to make something new and you did that wonderfully brother

The beauty of your videos are not the final results of the journey but showing that being resourceful with the tools and knowledge available, anyone is capable of restoring something. For example, i don't have a bench grinder. I got creative and figured out how to make a temporary grinding wheel with a drill. Wasn't perfect but it worked

I would never have thought of reusing a cartridge case as a knife pommel but now that you showed it, it’s kind of obvious. The primer hole is ready made to put the lanyard through, even. Shotgun shell, right? I almost had a heart attack when you tossed the sheet metal from the original scabbard but then I realized that it could not be original to the saber the knife was made from because it was only folded, not welded or soldered. You call the finished project ugly, I call it utilitarian. Nothing wrong with that. I expect to see it working as hard as you do in future videos. Beep beep!

It was an old style Bayonet which would have been in a sleeve that was part leather part metal as the metal dragging across the metal as it was pulled out would have assisted to keep it sharper for longer.
