I never like to temper past the blade itself. If you temper the hilt (where it transitions from the blade to handle, usually with a fairly tight corner) it's prone to breaking along that fracture line. Heat up the knife blank in the furnace, but only push it into the oil up to the end of the blade's edge, the oil will still do a gradual tempering through the hilt by way of heat conduction (the oil still taking some heat out of the hilt but not to the same degree as the blade). It makes a difference in how much punishment the finished knife can take without failure.

Where are you going to survive with that knife? Shops on every corner

@@nathanadrian7797why is not possible to survive with this knife? I am trying to inderstand..😂
@nathanadrian77974 ай бұрын
@@okidoki5695 Although the knife looks good, it is a very poor blade design for anything other than a fighting knife. The craftsman takes round stock and pounds it flat, but then just grinds it to shape rather than forging it to shape, this results in an inferior knife. The worst part is that although he hardened the blade by quenching it in oil, he never tempered the blade. That blade will be so brittle that if he lays it flat on the anvil and strikes it with the hammer, it will break. The knife is pretty but useless.

You had better chosen, a better steel for a knife. Spring steel is a sturdy material, but has a lower grade of sharpness, There are much better carbon steels out there. And the Blacksmith forget the tempering process. The blade is too hard, know.
