Thank you, you have my utmost respect !! I have a black, ‘72 LP Custom that I bought used in 1972, it was too heavy for the original owner. In the 50 years he’s been with me, it was played extensively, stolen twice and returned and the headstock has been broken off more than 11 times, the bridge, tuners, pickups have all been replaced multiple times . The guitar was never purposely abused, just played hard and much loved. When our bass player hit the headstock with his Pbass headstock, I took it to the Luthier that had lovingly repaired it for over 30 years, we both agreed it was time for retirement. 6 months later I got a call, the LP was repaired. When I walked in the store, my band was there, a bunch of friends.. Gary the Luthier, opened the case and my tired old friend had received a restoration of the same level that you gave this white one. It was pretty damn emotional ! Mine is much more battle scared cosmetically, but the repair on the neck, frets, everything were done perfectly. It did and still does plays beautifully, but not only does it deserve to rest, he’s too heavy for me now ! Again, thank you ! I have to go visit my old friend right now ..

Actually, that wasn't bad at all. Those "WERE" micro-frets, and as such I've seen much worse. The micro's on my '70 custom were worse than that one, and it still played great ! I'm shure she's a fine tech, but technically this is not a restoration. This was a gibson custon "fretless wonder, now it's a gibson custom with jumbo's...................What a shame.

Gibson called them ‘fretless wonder’. It’s part of the character of these customs really.
@joenunaurbizness4862
@joenunaurbizness4862 3 ай бұрын
@@ronanzann4851 I agree! I had a 'Fretless Wonder' that was a last 60's vintage - I had it in the early 80s. The frets wore out and I had someone refret it - I wanted the bigger frets - that was a mistake! Those 'micro-frets' should be used in any restoration - NOT the newer styled 'fat' frets - in my opinion. Those newer frets changed the character of the neck for certain. And you must get someone competent enough to do the work. Unfortunately the work on my guitar was sub-parr. My Fretless Wonder had pickup covers that had Gibson stamped into them. I took them off and I have them to this day! Otherwise I like to view this young persons work but - it should have been re-fretted with what you are calling the 'micro' frets in my opinion.

@@johnm2012 Anything;'s possible. I just know that it was the wrong thing to do to the guitar for me and I'm pretty sure you can't go back because I think the fretboard had to be re-sawn to accommodate for the wider - fatter frets. I suppose one could replace the fretboard but $$$ more.

@jlo7770
@jlo7770 9 ай бұрын
That's cus it's been refretted.. I highly doubt gibson in any era would have cut the nibs off randomly and did a janky job of it to boot. I know there's some that don't come with fret nibs but as far as I know theyre cheaper models.. I would lean towards it having been refretted at some point in its life as you can see where the nibs were, it seems like an odd thing for gibson to do when they pound out these guitars in mass numbers, they'd just throw that in the trash or pull the binding off and redo it. The fact the nut looked like it did kinda makes me think its very possible the guy did too much booze or drugs to remember if it'd been refretted

Another video on how to make a perfectly playable instrument the right way. And the best part is that it's a GIRL doing it! I like my action just as low as possible. I've made my share of mistakes but the one thing that I try to never do is mess up on a nut - it's as important to have a properly fitted nut as it is to have perfect frets. I too have had my follies with nuts that are cut too deep or the wrong gap in between strings but those are very far and few - - - like I've only done like two or three wrongly cut in the past thirty years. I copy the original nut as closely as possible for a perfect match. But sometimes the original nut is so bad that you can't copy it exactly but as close and sometimes you have to guess as you go along to establish a new string height. This is something that you can't rush. I'm so glad that you do this and I love watching you work. Especially since we both are so closely matched in our techniques. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us to enjoy.

Fantastic work. Just fantastic. The video production is top notch also. I hope I'm not being disrespectful in offering a suggestion. When you glue a nut in it's better to glue it to the end grain of the fretboard. Obviously this nut will not be replaced again but if it ever comes time to, the glue won't rip any of the wood out like it would above the truss rod slot. I've had a handful that there wasn't any material left there anymore. Just a trick for you to consider. But again excellent work. I would feel more than comfortable sending my instruments to you.
