RESTORATION | Oil bath air Filter (Gross!🤢) | Land Rover Series

Restoring the Air inlet filter from start till finish. Let me know your thoughts about it! Have you ever seen such a dirty oil bath filter before?

That's a bloody nice looking engine bay. My 2a is a tangle of wires and hoses. You've given me some inspiration to clean it up.

7:10 in the video: There is an easier and much less destructive way of fixing the broken bolt for the lid. Instead of welding, get a connector nut (elongated nut) in #10--24 thread size, cut it to the same length as the spacer, cut the remaining part of the broken bolt that still attached to the filter to half of the spacer length, thread the connector nut on, take a #10-24 bolt and thread it on, put lid on, cut bolt as needed, put regular #10-24 nut on, and voila! I don't think the original thread size is #10-24, more likely a coarse British thread size, but the modern #10-24 thread fits nicely.

Jan- My air filter element was missing the primary mesh filter...I didn't realize there was a primary mesh. I do have the mesh that is in the upper part of the air filter housing. Do you remove that mesh as well for cleaning? Initially, I just poured petrol into the housing to clean the mesh in the upper housing. it looks very clean. Anyway, thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hey Michael, Thanks for your comment. I only took out the primary mesh. I wasn't able to take out the secondary element. Usually the primary element will be the most dirty and the second element is there just to collect as much as oil droplets before the air goes into the engine. Have a nice day and all the best! Jan

Jan take mesh outside lite the mesh on fire till it burns all the cap outs and metal and re paint I cleaned many times on old oil air filters ron brennan rdzl om616

Hallo Jan. Wat voor een slangetje heb je gebruikt voor de carterventilatie? Het slangetje tussen de "zwarte dop" op het kleppendeksel en het vlinderklephuis. Ik heb zelf een ex KL Lightweight en ben al een paar jaar op zoek naar een nieuw slangetje (niet te koop) of een goed alternatief.

Hey Pike, Ik gebruikt brandstofslang. Dat is olie bestendig en had toevallig te juiste diameter. Je kunt het per meter kopen bij een automaterialen zaak.

Goedendag, Ik ben zojuist gestart met het renoveren van een oude series 2. Super handige tip voor dit air filter. Ga het direct proberen. Kieper je nou gewoon motorolie onderin als ‘filter’olie?
