Restoration Update on 1946 Piper J3 Cub (Update

Thought I would make a undated video of the progress I've made on the Cub. I have pretty much striped all the covering off the plane and getting ready to pull the engine off.

Brian Procter - Thank you so much! 👍🏼 Yes sir I do. A LOT of work. Lol. I need to set my GoPro up and do some recording with it. My new sand blaster will be here Monday. I'm fixing to be taking the engine off and finish stripping everything off the frame so I can pressure wash with degreaser. Then sand blast frame. 👍🏼 I will have to do it in 5 to 6 feet sections then prime it before the day is up because it will rust over night with the humidity being so high here in Georgia.

I recognize that process. Our 46 J3 was the first aircraft I ever helped restore. Lots of fun, just a big model haha .

@@ColeAviation took us just over a year. When we got it , it was completely disassembled, nothing bagged or labeled, just thrown in boxes. Spent the first few months with the bolt guage and parts manuals going through everything and organizing. Ours has the Reed Clip Wing Conversion and has a C90 installed. Its been reworked and now is 105hp. I need to get video this spring.

dave huff - Oh WOW!! 105hp 😁👍🏼 That’s awesome !! Yes sir that would be the hard part right there. Lol. Trying to figure out nuts and bolts. I gauged and labeled everything into ziplock bags which makes it sooooo much easier. I hope to bring the fuselage home tomorrow. I should have another update video up soon. 😉👍🏼 Clip wing Cubs are a blast. I would love to see some pictures of your Cub if you have some.

@@ColeAviation I have pics of after the fact. The original restoration was before smart phones. The Cub was used in airshows, and saw its share of the drunken farmer comedy routines.

Dats Dope I WISHED. LOL. I just started the fabric on the tail surfaces. I’m shutting for next summer. 😁👍🏼 It takes a long time when doing it all my self.
