Please make a proper push stick for use with table saw. I know it is only a small one but as your push sticks don’t have a notch in it, it could slip off your work piece and your hand could slip into the blade. It would probably not cut a finger off but you could damage ligaments in your hand and then permanently limit your dexterity 😮 as a doctor, wood worker and model ship maker I have seen the results of simple accidents far too often. On a positive note I always love the quality of your work 😊

All my pushers have a notch, but when the thickness of the part is 2 mm, it makes no sense!

Grazie

OK, let me see if I got this right; in the last episode you carved out oar ports, something only you and maybe your husband Kroum even knew existed (certainly not the two original modelers of this vessel). Then You took the time to carve them out with exactitude and paint the breaches red, and now you are covering them up with perfect doors, never to be seen again. I am currently working on a model of the USS Constitution and I confess that I have added a few Easter eggs that only me and the cat will know about, but your attention to detail astounds me every day. Bravo to the high standard that you set!

In the case of BOREAS, archival drawings have been preserved, which were made almost immediately after the ship was launched. So, here we know exactly how many and where the oar ports were located! Even carvings of the stern, which is rare. Also, these drawings were published by Peter Goodwin in his book Nelson's Ships, which I have on my desk right now! And yes, the oar ports had lids. Partly, but they are still will be visible from the inside.

Outstanding work as usual. I've been modelling ships from scratch for the past 44 years and I am learning more than ever by watching your streams. Thank you Olha. And wishing Imbir a speedy recovery from his mishap. Can't function properly without a furry inspector to oversee things.

You should not use a rip fence and miter gauge in combination unless a block is clamped to the fence to set the cut and when you move forward, a space is created to prevent a binding issue and potential for dangerous kickback. I just don't want you to get hurt.
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov 2 ай бұрын
This is why you should never stand above a table saw, as kickback can occur even with a simple cross-cut. Or do as in this video - put a thicker bar that does not allow even a piece of 5x5 mm to go at an angle and get under the blade and get a kickback!

Oar Ports = the need for oars...no? Where would these have been stored - perhaps on the channels you just re-installed (?), and will you be adding this further detail also?? - AMAZING work, BTW...I have binged all your videos - especially this series. I Love your work!

Cool! It looks like you use larboard and starboard. Wondering where they would have stowed the sweeps as they would have taken quite a bit of space and would have been unhandy due to their long length.

А почему почти все весельные порты расположены на шпангоутах?
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov 2 ай бұрын
Потому что они так врезались в шпангоути! Жаль что автор не сделал реальное гвоздевание, что б четко било видно. То что на моделе - ето я називаю гвоздевание из-за уха, примерно каждий 4й или 5й шпангоут...!

Hi Olha, I just became a member of your channel. Your model building skills are exceptional. I have always been a model builder of some description from plastic kits to live steam model engineering but have never attempted a wood boat kit, until now. I have just received Vanguard Models HM armed cutter Sherbourne. I have a question I hope you can answer. I see you using small files in your videos. Are these just ordinary 'needle files' meant for metal or are they miniature wood rasps? I cannot seem to find any small wood rasps so suspect the former. Already eyeing up a second model the John Smith Shallop you built on the channel. I also like the Viking ship by Pavel too but feel there are too many errors in the kit to justify the cost. I hope that any of your friends and family that may be in Ukraine are keeping safe. Edit: I was starting the video as I was typing. I hope you and your family stay safe, I was under the impression that you lived in the States. Kind regards, Mark

Welcome aboard! This is a completely different world of modeling! You will like it! Yes, I use mini files for wood (for metal - they get clogged with sawdust very quickly). They are called mini rasps or files...
@markburgess4528

@@OlhaBatchvarov An old engineers trick is to rub a piece of chalk over the file before use. Helps to stop it clogging up this is for metalwork so don't know if it works with wood.

Why are the hinges opening side to side instead of up and down like gunports? I only thought to ask after watching the short.
@OlhaBatchvarov

Good question! They also open (the left and right) towards the bow of the ship. Perhaps it is related to rowing technique!
