@@Greg383BB I certainly wish I had more Views and subs Greg. I probably need to add more staged drama to get the views. Lol. Mopar Joe from Alaska. When I was 17 years old I jumped a 71 charger with 3 friends onboard I slammed my face into the steering wheel and broke my nose to the left about 2 ' Hell of a learning ordeal but it sure tott me to drive with caution and not like a Idiot. Passenger cracked the dash and windshield with his knee and face from being slammed from from the 300 pound 6 foot lurch in the back seat. I was stiff armed before the landing and the force turned into a strait pull into the steering wheel. Jeepers Creepers what a Heck was I thinking. The A pillar was bent were the fender bolts on by the door was on the ground the car was bent like a Duke charger.

I've never seen it done this way. Usually the videos I've seen use fiberglass and dash pad-specific filler. This was interesting.

I've seen some of that too but the ones I watched were for small cracks in the pad. Thanks for the comment Jay.

That's as good as it gets when using a dash cover over lay...and that dash pad was really beat I have about 15 of those pads none are as bad as that one you repaired... Guess the California sun beats them hard... But for a $150 that repair beats getting a just dashes one for what they charge. So cool on that 👍😎

Yeah, aren't they around $1,000? Keep those cores! If mine can be saved they all can be saved. It was the worst pad I had, I have a couple of other bad ones but I wanted to see of the worst one was savable. BTW, I'm too poor for a Just Dashes recover.

Not being a smart ass, but would spray foam work shaved down and then some kitty hair in the minor low spots work. Never restored a dash in my life. Just was thinking as I was watching your video is all. I like the fact your taking something that is perceived as junk and making it into a usable part. Much respect.
@JonnyMopar15 күн бұрын
I don't know if that would work Hemidog. I would be concerned the foam you sprayed in it wouldn't stick, especially after sanding it. But, the only way to know for sure is to try it. I wasn't sure melting the plastic into it was going to work and as you saw it didn't have a smooth finish. But it did work in the end. And I was thinking the same thing, I kinda liked the idea of saving something that probably belong in the trash can. I think I cut it out of the video but the factory pad has a steel core. The re-pops are fiberglass or ABS. And you can have the originals re-vinyl'd but its pretty expensive. So even if it didn't work I still woulda kept the dash pad for the core.

I actually don’t know Mitch. If you try it let me know how it goes. I like the idea. I’m curious if the glue material flows better and sands better and like you said, sticks as good.

Man that was a whole bunch of work! You made that old dash pad soilid and look great with the cap on. I am wondering would fiberglass work similar to fill the cracks after grinding them out?
@JonnyMopar11 күн бұрын
@@curtisduncan6097 It was a lot of work Curtis. But it was the worst dash pad I had so It’s down hill for any future ones. I’m not sure about fiberglass. I’ve never worked with it before. But seems like it would work mixed with epoxy. Basically, as long as it sticks and doesn’t delaminate it should work. And it would easier to sand.
@chriscurry2367 күн бұрын
Fixed the Dash pad in my 87 Ranger a year or so ago, ground and V'ed the crack's, short strand fiberglass filler,then just a thin coat of regular body filler, 2k urethane primer, spray max from a can, sanded with 320,then sprayed with Rust-Oleum bed liner spray, turned out awesome, pretty closely matches the factory fax vinyl or leather grain,how I dod that one, had maybe $35.00 dollars in total investment 👍

I have used a 2 part epoxy to fill cracks on the old pads sand down and smooth out. You can also use black zip ties for your plastic rod we use that to repair bumpers and plastic parts on newer cars.

@@chadcoffman1870 Oh cool. Thanks for the zip tie tip. The epoxy route seems like a good strategy too. I wish this stuff sanded more easily. But it was so bad it probably woulda took a gallon of epoxy. lol.
