When you own a piece of history, the best way to preserve its authenticity is to restore everything you can, as best as you can, to its original state, but you’ll also love to keep that naturally worn patina.
Although this house is around 250 years old, I believe the counters are only a little over 100 years old. Over 14 years in the stone industry , I’ve developed my own unique process to resurface and restore soapstone, as you see in this video. I use a special die and sealer process to deepen the stone’s color and to protect it.

You shouldn't be dying or sealing soapstone. Soapstone is non-porous and just needs to be treated with mineral oil or better yet, organic wax or oil made specifically for it. For best finish use 120 grit dry at finish, then wipe oil/wax on and wipe completely off. Nice job though!
