Cuba started the restoring revolution of Antique classic U.S made vehicles. Being Cuban-American I’m proud of both countries for keeping the true old American dream alive. There’s nothing like an old American made car. Back when everything was made in the U.S you know it was solid and lasted forever!

I'd love to see Cuba, the architecture, and of course, all the old American cars. Since this video is three years old, I hope the owner got it restored without any big problems. God Bless Ricardo and Dayan, and Cuba.

Lots of antiques yes, but very few original engines, around early 2000s the Communist government (meaning the Castro's) started a program that offered exchanging all those original gas engines for Soviet tractors Diesel engines (in Cuba Diesel is a million times more affordable than gas)... So almost every one went for it, in order to keep rolling. (Sometimes I wonder where all those spare "original" parts come from in the US... Hummmm... This Fucking Castro's... Making millions one more time.

Although I am basically a British car guy I have a soft spot for vintage Caddy's. I go to Cuba often and have for many years.In the 1950s I believe Cuba was the largest export market for Cadillacs and there is no question there are still a lot of Cadillacs driving around. I have seen a few 59' convertible Series 62s driving about(which the government seems to own) and I did get a drive in an outstanding 1954 Series 62 4 door. I really enjoyed this episode and best of luck with the restoration. Cheers!

The Cuban "restoration method" is scary, but it works! It's worth fixing up a rare flat-top version of the 1959 Caddie. It also has the vents for factory air, if they can repair it--an expensive option in those days.

I've always thought I would like to have a 59 wagon, 'hearse' to restore. This is a nice example of a 59! I do wish the fellow good luck......

What part shows the restoration? Shit we started that way all the time in the old days. And if that didn't work we'd throw a lit match in like the old Kaufman chargers on aircraft motors. Really roared to life then. Glad we have fuel injection today. Finally the auto companies came into the 1940's.

JulJasMah Nope! Not even close. There is a major 60 year old worldwide trade embargo imposed by the United States that makes it impossible for them to do business with most countries in the world. It would be like me and you having a spat and me influencing all employers going forward not to hire you while accusing you of being lazy because you don’t work.
@1533ramsay
@1533ramsay 5 жыл бұрын
@@luvitluvitbaby I understand the embargo on Cuba. I not accusing the Cuban people of being lazy. Fir over 50+ years they have had to survive. The embargo was to punish Castro for taking over this country and doing hoard things to the people. I know first hand. My mother and grandmother was in Cuba vacationing during the Bay of Pigs and had to be emergency rescued by the US embassy. I'm from Miami and my brother married a Cuban and there family has zero love for Castro and his brother Raul...
@luvitluvitbaby
@luvitluvitbaby 5 жыл бұрын
Mark Hoffman But he did those things 60 years ago. He’s dead now. The embargo was put in place not to punish Castro but to wreak such economic devastation that the Cuban people would rise up and overthrow or the government would bend to the will of the United States. Neither has taken place. The Castro’s live good. The only ones suffering due the embargo are the common people. The embargo serves no useful purpose. A better plan would be to open up trade with Cuba and gradually as the Cuban people see the benefits of a open free market society they will make the reforms. Raul isn’t getting any younger. However, punishing innocent people with an brutal and unfair embargo just breeds more resentment and resistance to free market western values.

While Fidel Castro did take over Cuba on Jan. 1, 1959, his government didn't finally confiscate all American assets (as well as the large Cuban-owned private companies) till October 1960. So this '59 Caddy wouldn't have been seized from a dealership right away, despite what the owner says. Individuals who owned cars as of Jan. 1, 1959 could keep them, but not sell them, and only could legally transfer ownership to immediate family members till 2012. Now cars can be sold, but they can't be imported into the USA directly from Cuba, so don't go thinking you can hop down to Cuba and buy an old car like this one.
