Drill and "tap out" (make screw-in threads) then use screws. Basic engineering. Google "tap and die".
@noddynoodle7060
@noddynoodle7060 Жыл бұрын
Most model car restorers seem to use very small screws that look similar to the rivets. They are attached by drilling a very small hole down into the body of the original rivet. The screw threads then have something to grip as they are screwed in. There are probably other ways to do it but this method seems to be popular. Search KZbin for 'hot wheels restoration' or similar and you will see some examples.

I love the new intro. I love your channel. I have been watching for a few years now. And l have several comments. I feel you have a beautiful family with each posessing the same amount of intelligence, sensitivity and common sense. They are all so admirable! I believe you and Melissa are well suited for each other and balance each other out, while one is more out- going the other is more reserved but each shares the same mindset. I love how the two of you share the beauty and wonder of life together with the world around you. I thank you! I wish you the best for 2024 and l hope The Lord richly blesses you all !❤

Kudos Alex, you did a fantastic restoration on the cars. When you 1st showed us the VW & I saw how the paint on the roof looked gouged. I'm sorry to say I didn't have much faith in you. But once you showed how it looked after you stripped the paint off of it. My faith completely changed. I'm amazed at just how well the VW came out. To me the color is stop on & if you hadn't showed us the before. I would have thought that was the condition it was in when you received it. I wish everyone a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year! 🎊🎇🥂🎆

Does drilling the rivets out affect the value of the car?
@brennanrpaul

Most definitely. Most Redline collectors like them in the original state. I would have probably just replaced the wheels with nicer original wheels. This one has a decent value even though the condition is poor. Restorations are super nice though.

So you spruced up the Volkswagen, and I must say it looks great! From a collector’s perspective, for such a collectible, would it have been better to leave it original, or do you think going through the time to make it look way better, help it in its value? I know this is NFS, but just curious as to when a restoration is a hindrance or a help. Also, is there a way to re-rivet the chassis to the body? I would think that to be an important part of the restoration. Also, in repainting any car, or metal object, some restorers use powder coating, which of course is baked on. Have you ever considered that in your toy cars, for durability? Sorry for all the questions, but it is interesting to see something restored, and I like knowing the process, as well as how much a restoration can make or break an item. Thanks for showing us!

Great looking restorations Alexander. Took a lot less time than the Rolls Royce did. I guess it helps that a family of tiny squirrels had not set up their homes in those cars. Did restoring the VW actually increase it's resale value? Did you restore it for the aesthetic value as something to keep on your shelf?

Alex did quickly mention that the value would remain roughly the same [earlier in the video] and then later, that he restored it so it would look good on the shelf.
