Restoring a Best Duty #3 Potjie!
Today, we are restoring a vintage #3 Best Duty Potjie pot. It had some rust on the outside, but the inside was in poor shape. Well, after scrubbing the inside with vinegar and a stainless steel scrubber, I was finally able to get it all off. After that, I cleaned the entire pot one more time and dried it completely. The last step was to oil it down, wipe it dry, and put in the oven for a spa treatment.
I can't wait to use it at our next gathering at the State Park!

I would sandblast the rust completely off. Wash out the grit, dry well, then season.

I would never sandblast cast iron that has surface rust. I was able to get everything out and it fully restored without sandblasting.
