No doubt you've seen the recent CHAP 1970 ARRL ham radio video. If you haven't, you need to. Beautiful rig. I had one of these years ago. I think it was the 80 meter version, but I had it a short time before I sold it. I wish I could have kept it. I had this and a couple of old Civil Air Patrol radios that used the 6GE5 concraptrons (they're actually really good tubes). I fixed them all and sold them about 20 years ago and managed to acquire an extra set of 6GE5's in the mix that I still have. Your radios make me "green" with envy. Great job! Take care and 73.

I just recently found this page and I love the video's, always nice to see someone that appreciates this equipment from the past and show that it is still quite usable and fun to restore. I grew up on Heathkit, it was something that I could afford to purchase new and always lots of fun to assemble and get working. I wish I had purchased more non ham radio products when Heathkit was going strong.

Rare as rocking horse droppings over this side (UK) but still a beautiful rig, fabulous design and all that after 60 years! Amazing. Lovely restoration too. Nice work.

I had one of these when stationed in Heidelberg with USAREUR HQ in 1971-73. Used a vertical on the roof of my landlady's garage. I worked the world with this rig and loved it. Thanks for the video memory.

Very nice to see Heathkit rigs get cleaned up and put back into service. My current cw rig is a Heathkit HW-8 qrp and I started out as a novice in 1975 with a DX-60B transmitter along with a Hammarlund HQ110 as my receiver ( still have that up and running ) so I guess that shows that I still have some Heathkit in my blood hi hi. 73 de wa4jat

I have a bunch of Swan mono banders for 80, 40 & 20 that I want to restore including an original Bensen Arizona made Swan 120 serial number 176-2 with the gold front panel. The Heathkit monos were always a cool radio and I wish the various ham radio manufacturers would make a simple radio like this again.

Impressive and "lucky you" having those beauties. I am without equipments now (broken/old) and see those nice cabinets is a caress for my soul. Thanks for the video! LU8ARM

Cool radio. My uncle drove down from Toronto Canada to Long Island, NY to get one. I think he drove a Chevy.

If I ever find one of those rigs I'd move the mike jack to the front (if it was the older version), and extend the tuning range to cover the entire band. Then mod it to also do CW. Those rigs use sweep tubes in the final, but at least they are the cheaper kind out of B&W TV's.

Great video! I am working on a HW-22A that I built in summer of 1968. I have kept it in good condition for the past 56 years. The power supply electrolytic caps blew in 1968 when I first turned on the finished power supply. Heathkit sent me new ones right away. They have worked now for 56 years! I am replacing them now! The HW 22A has only 5 watts output. The driver tube seems good and I have a couple replacement finals to try as soon as I have the power supply up again. Do you know the RF voltage that should be on the plate of the driver or the grid of the finals? I should have measured that when it was putting out 100 watts! Hopefully the new finals will fix the output. I also recently found a HW-12 that probably needs a bit of work. Dirty but not as bad as the one you did. 73, Don N4DJ

Hi Will, Nice restoration video. I also have the FT-901DM. I'm going to do a recap of it and the vfo is a little stiff. Does the HW paint match an SB-220 amp? Stay safe. 73 WJ3U

Thank you so much for the very informative video. I am just starting out trying to restore some old Heathkits that I have and you make it so easy to understand. Thanks again Will. BTW I heard from someone that you may have lived in Harlingen, Tx. Is that true?

Hello Sir, I know this question has nothing to do with this video but I don't see a place to message you. Would you consider doing a video about how to replace the 2 wire plug with the 3 wire plug on the HP 23 series power supply? Thank you .
