If you really want it all, you should come to South Florida and see Tri-Rail. Their Old Cab Cars have K5LAs that are right up there on the Holy Throne next to ACE’s, and then they also have Rotems with K2s which are simply better and stronger than those on Metrolink. And they also got P5s on most of their F40PHs too.

There are some good gevos out there in the sea of K5HLs. CSX 3310, a gevo, has the best K5LA on the entire CSX roster, sounds right out of the 1990s. Theres also a few select gevos which got special variants of the K5HL, such as the K5HLB and the Hybrid K5HLA, which sound absolutely amazing. If you are lucky enough to hear the few of these that exist I am sure anyone would like them

ACE is like tri-rail but in Northern California. ACE’s cabcars are really in tuned! My favorite cabcar of all time is ACEX 3302 which has not only the most beautiful sounding K5LA, but one of the best K5LAs in the Bombardier history! It’s so good that It sounds like one of the F40s. It’s AMAZING!! ACEX 3307 is so good as well. But the reason I’ll put it in 3rd place because of its history. 3307 before repainted hasn’t impressed me at this very moment. It’s k5la in my mind, was very soft and sounded like a k3la. Until, 2022 comes, and it’s leading with a repainted phase III paint which never looked so clean and refreshing before. And the best part of it unlike before, it’s K5la got even better and better and better! The fact that I have to sit there and listen to this K5LA all day on 3307 is insane. And because of that, now it skyrocketed from 8th place to 3rd place (favorite). This are my 2 things about 3302 and 3307.

Man i wish i had this problem. Even working for the railroad outside a rare few units you know how rare it is to hear a good k5la on NS? Then you listen to CSX trains going through the block we share with them and some of their k5las would put amtrak to shame. Theres been many a time where ive heard a sweet sweet k5la blowing thrugh crossings downtown back in my hometown and figure thats gotta be amtrak only to get near the tracks and see a csx sd40 pulling a cut across town. Not to say NS doesnt have some good ones alot of the rebuilt ac44s which i see alot of have some good ones and alot still manage to have mechanical bells too.

I Believe that 2 of Metrolink's F125 Locomotives (929 and possibly 926) are equipped with a back up K3L on the roof should the K2 stop sounding (similar to how the F59PH AND PHIL'S had back up K5LA's on their roofs, kinda strange as to why they chose to use the smaller horns

ACE currently only appears to have just one Series 9 CEM in service, #3310. Looking forward to seeing more of them in service in the coming months. Not a fan of their k5ca’s that much tho but whatever.
