My grandpa built me my first go kart out of an old lawn tractor frame. He cut and welded and put a Briggs 5HP motor from a tiller. It looked very much like this thing. Bareboned with nothing extra. I must have put 100,000 miles on that thing! (that's what it felt like) He made me fix it when I broke it so I could learn. The brake was from a bicycle and simply put friction on the drive shaft. I had to change the rubber pads once a week. Every bike I could find was stipped of parts. Great memories and it taught me a ton about how things worked.
@pookysdad48843 жыл бұрын
I'm building one the same way from the frame and rear axle of an ancient riding mower I found at the dump. I can't weld and don't have a welder, so I have to bolt everything together. It's EXTREMELY janky, rusty, and ugly, but I have ZERO dollars in it! All garbage dump parts. It'll just have a friction brake on the rear tires, and I expect it to do maybe 15mph in the yard 😂.

One wheel peel, one wheel brake pad (on the rubber tire), no seat belt (only chance to survive was to be thrown from these things), to shut of the engine you had to reach to the spark plug and flip a piece of metal onto it to ground the plug(sometimes you got a shock). Interesting resto. Just curious; is the inside of the fuel tank the color of rust on purpose (45:36)? What will prevent dirt and water from getting into to foam cushion at the underside between the cushion and frame? I'll give some tips from my wleding experience at my work. I'd recommend you hold the TIG torch much closer to the workpiece. You want the arc to be as small as possible to focus the heat on the seam. That will give you better control over the molten puddle and reduce heating of the workpiece. It will help cover the weld with protective gas. It will also make less noise. I hope you were not in AC mode. DC electrode negative is what you want on steel. Nice job restoring the go cart. One thing I notice was you switched the pedals to opposite sides, now the pedal back stops don'y stop against anything.
